This is my first edit using Final Cut Pro - mainly filmed this because it's pretty neat to dig out and uncover a 69 Z28 that's just been sitting for so long, and to try out FCPX.
Today my Dad purchased a 1969 Camaro Z28 that hasn't moved or seen daylight in over 30 years from a long time friend of his.
The car was modified into a full blown drag car back in the early 70s, broke a driveshaft racing in the 80s, and has been sitting in the same spot since! It's a real "survivor" like it's been sitting in a time capsule for over 30 years!
We have an original 302 DZ engine we will put into it, fix the car up, and enjoy some cruising! My Dad used to own a 69 Z28 back in the 70s, and has regretted selling it ever since - now he has another one to fix up and enjoy!

Great find man! My old man just picked up a former drag car too. 1969 Camaro Convertible, originally a z11 pace car. We're getting it back on the road right now.

it's legit. 1986 was not that long ago for the car to have rusted away into nothing, especially inside a garage. Dust is just Dust. Maybe the previous owner cleaned it 3 years ago so you don't see 30 years worth and can see the Orange color popping out.

Just found this video by accident, and I can tell you what I remember. This was my Uncle Larry's car which he bought from a widow who's husband (and friend of my uncle) died when a GTO he was riding in lost control and broad sided a large light pole. It was sitting in his business "Jones Speed Shop" so that's why it's cleaner than a car sitting for 30 years in a barn. I'm pretty sure it was prior to 1986 that the driveshaft broke, because I was still in high school and graduated in 1983, then left the area entering the military. We were at Muncie drag strip and he dumped the clutch with the revs pretty high, guessing 6,500-7,000, the engine had aluminum rods and a large solid roller cam, so revved high. He pulled the wheels quite high, maybe 4 feet or so, then a smaller one when shifting into second. Just after shifting to 4th, not far from the 1/4 mile end, the driveshaft broke and the front half flew out the back and high in the air, back half stayed in the driveshaft loop, we were done. Back at the shop, we looked into the carnage and found that the axle rotated in the u-bolts, straining the driveshaft. Also, 1 ear completing broke off the transmission and another had a crack halfway through. The front Weld Wheels were on the car then, that I can confirm. The rear had slicks at the time, but maybe he sold those prior to this sale...I helped him screw the tire beads to the wheel rims! The car looks pretty much the way it did when he bought it, except had a steel hood that matched the car. I watched all your videos, and think its great what you guys are doing with the car...good luck!

Wow thanks so much for taking the time to give such a detailed reply. Let me know if you'd like to come check out the car how it sits today. It's a pure joy to drive now. Please contact me on here privately and we can arrange it. I'm sure my Dad would love to hear more background on the car, and I will pass this message on to him. Thank you!

My 1976 Trans Am has been sitting since late 1986 early 1987 as well. And it looks just as "Too Clean" as the "Car Experts" on here say this '69 Z28 is for it to have been sitting 30 years. Except mine actually sat outside exposed in the backyard, it didn't have a roof over it's head to protect it from rain, sun, humidity, mud, dirt, etc from 30 years worth of California Sun. I know this because it was My Fathers first Car bought in 1977 & he parked it himself in the backyard way back then & forgot about it due to rising gas prices & it's a gas guzzler. it's got a couple quarter sized rust spots on the hood and around the rear window which is typical on these cars, but it's nothing bad. I'm surprised To look at it you'd think it's been sitting for just 10 years it's so rust free compared to how bad your average sitting for 3 decades F-Body has rust everywhere. Now the Hood Bird is Faded because 30 years of Summer baked it up. 30 years of sitting without anybody opening the doors has cooked the seats, they're torn up, so it will need new seats, the Headliner is gone, but the Dash has just ONE single vertical line crack. No rust under the body it's solid. Honestly the worst Rust is on the right side of the trunk lid. The Rust concentrated there & punched a hole through you can see into the trunk. But hey, anybody can replace a '70-'81 Trunk Lid with just a Rachet. There's no rust on the trunk floor, Maybe I got lucky too. :) I'll make videos documenting the restoration on mine when I get a good camera.

As Far as Paint Quality being "too nice" for sitting 30 years goes, when the car sits in a garage, there's no sun to eat up the clearcoat and dull/fade the paint. Dust for 30 years won't do it. it just washes off with soapy water and a sponge. But Exposed sitting outside in the Sun for 30 years will eat up the clearcoat.
@chargerman100

Around 1983 I saw a white 69 Z-28 torn apart mostly covered with leaves in a backyard of a house. I asked if it was for sale but the owner said NO! He planed on restoring it one day.I went back there about two years later and was told it had been SCRAPPED.

I myself was in doubt upon seeing the "bumping" looking wheels on the rear. Then to verify my own suspicions as to a claim of untouched for 30 years.To reinforce my suspicions someone one else below listed in the comments stated of the mfg and time period of the front set of wheels not being manufacturerd as yet for several years to come. If your going to do videos at least be ready to defend your claims of the authenticity of the historic "barn find " event you are recording. This is just another fantastic tale of a old hotrods rediscovery that are likely real finds that have been exaggerated or embilshed to make it so much better that the end result becomes worse. To the extent of being a total lie or better said "bearer of false witness, unbecoming of a teller of any truth". Another examle of I believe is called "click bait "therefore I won't watch the second episode of this ignorant telling of a fantastic archeological find of such amazing proportions that just stuns the entire world of fantasy.
@slowmanEF
@slowmanEF 5 лет назад
Dennis Hale there is nothing exaggerated in the claim or video. It’s a car that has been sitting on jack stands for 30 years. Don’t look too deep into it thinking it’s more than that. The previous owner sold the rear wheels/slick setup and we brought some wheels out of our garage to put on to get the Camaro on the trailer. I don't know why this is a hard concept for folks to understand. Also the front wheels were no doubt available in the 80s when the car was last out at the track. I advise you look at my replies and pinned comment if you’d like to learn more. Thanks for your comment and have a better day.

@@slowmanEF Sorry for my comments about the authenticity of your enviable aquisition of such a now near impossible feat that's generally a impossible event in anyone's live today. I consider it very close to discovering buried pirate treasure or finding and developing a gold claim that makes a fortune. The last one I happened on to was a 1971 Mustang Mach 1 in very good original shape. The guy who had it was a old school hotrodder who was a lot like all of us were in those days. We weren't carbon copies of the same design that seems to infect the very soul of America. Individuals who are no more individual in thinking or actions or abilities than a row of Campbells tomato soup cans on a shelf that to the trick of the minds eye appear to dissappear into infinty. As your own eyes become blurry as you watch these millenials and other types we call human beings go about there day in a kind of drone like method. Excuse my political retoric. I have a bad habit of expressing my political views and ideologies these days and have been doing a bit of creative political writing lately in our current crisis at every level of Government. I bet you can guess who i vote for and who I have no respect for in any way of shape or form they might appear. Anyway good luck with the Z .My younger brother who was born in august of 1969 would love to have it. He was fortunate to have had a 1969 SS-350 California black plate original purchased by mommy and daddy that I said at the time you guys are making a mistake. I by my own decision never wanted to be gifted of a first car. For various reasons mostly because it would really be mine to to be used as a control as some parents seem to do. Amyway that nice camaro lasted all of 6 months and ended up destroyed in the typical fubar fasion. Enough said,I will continue to follow your progress on your redo on possibly the most coveted of all American iron,everything included. Even the overrestored eletist trash thats pedeled of such tv unreality shows like Barret Jackass & Sons,or that horrible AssMonkey Carnage garage. Disgusting people who create such things and call it either entertainment or informative. Not for me, apalling shows that have driven the price of anything automotive ,even the most rusted and ruined to ridiculous values of impossible amounts. Despicable as the duck would say. Later. ...
