Tried out one exactly the same as this one orange with the white stripes and hounds tooth interior and chambered exhaust from Carter Chev Olds in Hamilton Ontario back in 1969. I stalled it 2 times and the salesman who was riding with me told me to give it more gas, I looked at him and said OK! When the tack hit 3500 rpm the 302 took off to 6000 in a HELL OF A HURRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I grabbed 2 the salesman said that's fast enough for a city street!!!!!!

Lou I really love your chanel. My Uncle purchased a 1969 Z-28 4spd solid lift cam 4bbl. It was awesome! He bought it in Sarnia , Ont at Parklane Motors. I was 6. I will never forget it. I do have pics with me beside it at our family cottage in Hope Bay , Ont. It was blue with white stripes. Lou everytime you put a muscle car on I always have the greatest memories. Thanks again Lou.

I love those first gen Z28s. That 302 was criminally underrated and I believe some of them had a factory dual quad setup that came in the trunk and was installed by the dealership

The 69 Z28 may be my favorite Camaro of all. It's definitely my favorite small block Camaro. But my all time favorite is probably a 69 ZL1 COPO
@kensalazar5066
@kensalazar5066 5 лет назад
Crossram setup Never came in the trunk, it was an over the counter "heavy duty equipment " as listed by GM. most of the time the dealer would not install it without voiding any warranty. Additionally other modifications were necessary to accommodate this system, including the "140" off road racing cam.

The "140 Penske/GM cam with 2x4 cross ram Hollys would make 450 h.p. at 8,000 rpm.. The Z/28 was TransAm champion 1968-69.

Great find! I’ve owned two Cameros, a 67 and a 71, and almost bought a 69. I sometimes have found cars that are neat, but when I do, no money or space to buy, restore, or keep the car. I found a 67 Camero convertible three blocks from my house, mint sitting high and dry in a garage. I found a pair o Ford Mustangs in a barn, a 66 and 67. Both needed a lot of work. I paid $100 each for them and sold them for $300 each a few months later. Grocery money!! I never found something as significant as a Z28. This Z28 has a lot of rare options and should be restored. Great story! Thanks Lou

The circle track racers were building this engine before the factory did. It's a 327 with a 283 crank. They called it a 301. It was a quick revving engine that would crank 8000 rpm's with no problems. It wasn't no torque monster but in a light body it would scream. I think it's power band was from 5000 to 8000 rpm if I remember right. It was a screamer with a low gear and you could shift fast enough to keep up with it. At the time driver's preferred the Hurst competition plus over the Muncie.

Way back in 1984 I wanted to trade my '69 GTO for a silver '69 Z28. It was all original except for one nice repaint. The guy let me start it up and rev it up a little. I was only 16 at the time. His asking price was $6500 but he said my GTO and $2000 and it was mine. That was a great trade because my 65k mile GTO was only $3500 less than a year before, but the guy really liked it. At the time I was really mad when my dad said no. He said I would always regret getting rid of my first car. Today I am thankful as I still have the GTO. But so far I haven't ever purchased an original '69 Z28. I really should stop waiting, they don't seem to be getting any cheaper.

TImes have changed! Years ago, Z28 or not, a car that was stomped into the ground like this and thrashed--a care that was raced!- especially with the wheel wells cut in back, would not be worth much. Today, even an example like this is highly desirable.

The Norwood cars had the x codes in 1969 to denote being a Z28. No x codes on the Van Nuys or Los Angeles built Z28s. Best to have an expert like Jerry McNeish document your Los Angeles car, or if you have the original build sheet it helps. By 1970, the z28s had "Z28" on the trim tag.

Man, you're gonna have to break down and get some proper mics at some point. At times I cant even hear the info when too far from the camers.

I dont understand these " barn finds " who would let a beautiful Z28 just rust and rot away . What's wrong with these people ???

The Z28 has solid lifters too but the Boss 302 has those great heads so it had more HP and more HP potential as a race car. Ford really had their stuff together by 1969.

they made 20,000 of these in 69,and now there are 100,000 of them. not a really big deal.

Dose seem like theres more than 20,000 floating around, be very hard to make one up to all of the original spects... including the the cowl tag..a lot of folks put stripes on their 69 Camaro and call it a z28.NOT!! Without the DZ302, and verified trans and rear, it's not a real Z28...be lucky if theres 10,000 floating around, that could actually be authenticated....way less for 68's and even less for the very rare 67's...
