Back around 1981 when I was 15 my neighbor spent $16k on a yellow Mangusta. I wonder if he still has it? He gave me a ride. Never forgotten it. Worth bank now.

I remember seeing one for the first time at an exotic car dealership in Camarillo Ca back in 1978, just driving by it on the 101 freeway. It was like a visual harpoon, the shimmering wedge of Italian silver stole my breath. I went to that dealership and met the owner. He hired me to help move the business across town and later helped me start my own detail shop. We are friends to this day. I credit Mangusta for facilitating that meeting.

I love how huge the tires are compared to the body of the car. One of the best looking cars ever. Fun fact: it was named Mangusta because that's the only predator hunting Cobras (especially Shelby Cobras 😂)

Absolutely the 'real' deal. Really great looking car with beautiful lines. The design is so much more appealing to me than the 'super' cars being designed today's younger generation. Even Chip Foose couldn't improve the design and that's saying something. The hinged rear access panels to the engine are truly unique. Simply a beautiful overall design and I sincerely hope the owner takes good care of it for future generations to admire!

Interesting, that the designers chose to put a heavy battery all the way to the back, when there is plenty of space just in front the RL wheel.

Mangusta - Italian for mongoose - the cobra killer, a sideways dig at Carroll Shelby. But flawed dynamics and slow steering are at odds with the pleasing shape. That said, a bright green example in my neighborhood never fails to turn my head and, given half the chance, I'd struggle not to buy it if it ever came up for sale.

My god that is just sex on wheels.. As a little boy of 9 I would have sold my mother for a Dinky toy model De Tomaso Mangusta. I thought of nothing else day in day out. My heart skips a beat to this day when I see one, 58 years later......

The engine and drive train is entirely too dependable to be considered a european exotic 😄. All other euro exotics hate that its not failing constantly and requires vastly over priced repairs. 😆

Nice bodywork, but the interior is quite a let downer... The gasoline as a counterweight for the driver... So, by the time the two wheels at the side of the gastank start to go up, you know it's time for a pitsstop... :) A more Italian colour in stead of the severe German silver also would have been an added value, red, or orange-like yellow or baby blue....

And to think I could have purchased a used De Tomaso for $8,800 but just married (go figure!) I couldn't talk the boss into spending that much money on a "toy" for me. GEEEZ!

Way cool car and I am a Ford man but that car should have a Chevy small block in it....thats what they came with. Ford worked with them and made the Pantera but the Mangusta needs a Chevy.
