1969 HONDA CB750 Sandcast Engine Sound and short test ride. The engine number is 1374 and frame is 1375. The bike is an early left-side-horn Sandcast built in May of 1969. I was able to find records of two other Sandcast cb750s that came with sequential engine and frame numbers, but they were both made after this bike. This only bike known to exist with original paint and sequential numbers below 1001400. I pulled the bike out of storage in 2017 and serviced it in preparation of finding it a new home. The bike has since been sold and is now located in England.
Honda popularized the transverse, overhead camshaft, inline four-cylinder engine configuration.
The layout had been used in racing engines prior to World War II.
Honda popularized the configuration with the CB750, and the layout subsequently became the dominant sport bike engine layout.

I can remember (like it was yesterday) when CB 750's and Kawasaki 900's ruled the streets. I worked near a motorcycle club on Jones Street in Newark NJ and you could hear those bikes tearing around blocks away. The sound of this bike brings back great memories of Newark in the 70's which was actually a pretty cool place.

You are right those two bikes were my favorites as a kid. Never owned either one. When I was 15 in 76 my dad bought me a 70 model Suzuki GT 380. 2 stroke. I thought I was the cat’s meow riding that bike back and forth to my first job.

My brother had this exact color on a new '69 in ...'69. And one of the most incredible experiences of my life was when he let me sit up front and even twist on the throttle a bit when out for an evening ride in the country in, you guessed it, 1969. I was only thirteen at the time and had ridden on it all over the Autobahn's of Germany and several countries on multi-day long hauls. Thanks for posting this and making sure that that gem went to a loving home in Jolly Olde. From southern California ~ Ride Forever!

Just found your channel, cool vids. My first bike was a 1970 CB750, solo seat with a beautiful long chrome fender. Born the same year as me. It was an Australian Police spec - all white including frame & dials. Won it in a pool game from a Finnish bikie - he would never ride it, cop bikes being cursed. On long left handers at 150k turns out he was right. Had the original 4 into 4’s, 100% original. Can’t remember what I traded it for, I’ve owned a lot of bikes since, but it’s still the most beautiful and terrifying thing I’ve ever thrown a leg over. Keep up the good work man.

The other indication of it earliness is that the oil filter cup is smooth, no fins.

Very cool bike! Daydreamed of owning one when I was a kid often. Never heard of the term sandcast though. Anyone know the particulars of that model or term?

The aluminum engine was cast in a sand mold. It made for a weaker casting. If one of these broke their chain it wasn't uncommon for it to get wrapped around the chain gear and crack the engine housing. Later diecast engines were stronger and less likely to get cracked. The cracking problem is one of the reasons the sandcast engine is rare. Keep an eye on that chain wear! How's that for some old-fart history?😊

@@JayWCase how much did you get for her if you don't mind me asking brother? I would gladly sell all three of my CB750's for your one 69 sandcast in a heartbeat! I am the owner of a 1971 all original and a 1973 almost all original and another 1973 restomod but of course I I'm always keeping my eye out even for a beater of a bike as long as it is 1969, I would have kept it brother I would not have sold it but that's just me
