The man was a musical genius, not only the greatest showman but the greatest talent Ive ever seen in my lifetime, RIP Liberace no one will ever take your place.
Yes indeed, the man had incredible speed and dexterity on these sambas..and without hitting a wrong note! He was fantastic and really loved his audiences, too. He would put on a 3-hour show and you hated to see it come to an end. That's how entertaining he was.
And I can't belive how people don't get how cool this was. A gay man shoving his sexuality in your face and denying it at the same time and doing this brilliant schmaltz. I love this guy.
This is from Liberace's 1969 summer series, taped in England, when he served as "THE RED SKELTON HOUR"'s summer replacement on CBS {Tuesdays, 8:30pm(et)}.
The greatest virtuoso pianist of the 20th century, no one like him ... Inspiration for other legends ... Way forward for anyone who embraces piano as an instrument ...
Unique talent and a great entertainer. Unfortunately, when at South Lake Tahoe, I preferred often to spend my time gaming at the black jack tables not accompanying my wife loved to his great and entertaining shows and performances. I saw him once though. When I heard this piece of music many decades ago, I loved it an was greatly impressed. what an amazing talent playing the piano. Thank you Liberace for the great pleasure and good times. Thanks showmanlee and youtube to help us continue to enjoy such talents from the past and the present.
Liberace possessed such great talent. Here, he plays Tico Tico at normal speed, it sounds great, then double speed, and it sounds great, but he could have easily played it at half speed too, and changed it into a truly dramatic piece. Liberace really was that good.
My jaw drops every time I hear that, incredible speed and timing plus that piano sounds awesome - such power, clarity and richness. A truely stunning Pianist/Piano combination with a cataclysmic torrent of tones!
my mom played Liberace vinyl records wen i was a toddler, 40 yrs ago...i was amazed by flawless piano playing - & d word "Liberace" became a household name in our house..vry awesome uniquely gifted guy, - and honestly, I see nobody who can equal or surpass his magical fingers & entertaining magic..thank u for uploading, thank you RU-vid!!! Uv changed d world..!
Thank you for this it is fantastic do you remember Ethel Smith the first lady of the hammond organ playing Liberace was amazing and can never be replaced
One thing that I really like about Liberace is what he was playful and made music what it is supposed to be: fun! And you can see that he loves what he's doing!
Liberace was a great entertainer. Who cares about what he did in his private life. I remember watching him on TV with my mom when I was young. He was fascinating to watch. Great pianist.
A Disney criou o Zé Carioca. O melhor ele sabia fazer... tocar!
Just two days ago, there was a lovely dedication to the El Paso Scottish Rite of the last commissioned and signed concert grand, meant for Liberace. He played it in 1985 here in El Paso. Both my husband and I are piano technicians and take care of this instrument. We have also performed on this piano in the dedication event. Such a sweet and inspiring story if you want to check it out.
I'm glad people are rediscovering Liberace's genius along with myself thanks to "Behind the Candelabra", for the fear and stigma of AIDS has shrouded his memory for long enough.
Lol the comments of those who never listen to classical music pianists! Liberace had a full classical training and was an accomplished classical pianist before switching to the “pop” side. He had a great musical talent and an uncommon showmanship, but there have been and there are today much more complete and more virtuoso pianists than him.
Tico-Tico no Fubá [ˈtʃiku ˈtʃiku nu fuˈba] is the title of a renowned Brazilian choro music piece composed by Zequinha de Abreu in 1917. I like Liberace's version.
Cool Kevin, I am really delighted that increasingly new north american generations are discovering brazilian folk music...choro ....maxixe....frevo.... oscar
There you have the proof that Liberace is a real artist. He only needed 2 min and 14 sec to prove it! (The percussion and the orchestra doesn't need to be there IMHO.)
Either you like him or hate him but one point is for sure he was a handful of an exciting pianist the world has ever seen. His taste in outfits is arguably a fact that is worth a discussion but then some people like this kind of getup before they get down. Liberace was for sure a piano miracle. What a shame that time goes by and forgetting is all that is left.
When Liberace entered the Las Vegas Hilton stage in a Rolls with a floor length ermine cape, you knew you were in for something special! Another fine musician of the day was James Booker...no Rolls and little recognition during his lifetime...but his rendition of Tico Tico is outstanding...what a joy it would have been to see both of those on the same stage.
my late mother was a fan of his big time..I never saw him, but she did 3 times and each time would just rave about him..Yeah, he was a flamer but who cared? He was a talented guy who just did his thing, and was wonderful at it..he was defintely one of a kind..
Nossa! Bravo!
we take no regard in as far as the pianist icon's gender disposition is concerned..but we take extreme recognition to the person's contribution to humanity, Liberace's legacy in music is generational & universal.... a posthumous PHD HONORIS CAUSA (Humanities) to Dr. Lee Liberace...
I always loved Carmen Cavallaro's rendition of this piece, but I'd have to admit that Liberace's velocity was really over the top on this one. Truly an amazing and timeless talent. You have to wonder if the world will ever see his like again. Thanks Lee.
I had forgotten how incredibly talented this man as - a real legend. Incidentally Tico Tico is actually named [Tico Tico no fuba' ] Tico Tico is a type of sparrow - "no" is like the Italian "nello" meaning "in the" and fuba' (NOT Fubar ! - accent is on last syllable) means Cornmeal. The phrase is literally: Sparrow in the Cornmeal
I like the song.... I know that is a very good pianist.... put... it´s so speed!! Some pieces of piano, or songs are beautiful without so much speed....
"Tico Tico no Fubá" is not exactly a samba. It´s a "Chorinho" composed by Brazilian composer Zequinha de Abreu. It became world popular by a vocal arrangement for Carmen Miranda to sing in a very fast tempo. Liberace was a real genius!
I was lucky to see Liberace when he was alive. He was the Mr. Entertainment 100 Percent. And very happy today that m Piano Tuner, Dan Levitan fixed my Yahama Disklavier "Player Piano" that I have over 10 years with all my famous piano players recorded when they were alive. [Liberace etc. songs] Wow coming to New York City will now be like coming back home.
I'm watching another Liberace video and he still can't read music. Well I've never seen him play with sheet music. That right there is a talent that no one else has!
