This car was the "camera car" and was attached to a camera vehicle rig (rig was designed by stock car driver Don Schisler and could do speeds up to 120mph!) and was used for all the head on shots of Kenny Rogers racing around the tracks. After all the racing track shots were completed the car was then welded to the RV's racing trailer to complete all of the RV scenes in the movie. This is 100% that car and we have all the history and documentation to prove as such.
In 1996 while Larry was doing some research for building a replica sprint car for his dear friend Brad Doty who raced a Gambler sprint car in the 1980's. Larry called his friend C.K. Spurlock and Tommy Sanders of Gambler in search for period correct parts. During the conversation Larry curiously asked them what ever happened to the original Brewster Baker cars? C.K. replied "Heck, the remaining Six Pack car is sitting out back of our plant here in Hendersonville since 1982. If you want it, come down and get it! Otherwise its going to scrap!" The offer didn't have to be repeated and Larry was quickly on his way to Tennessee to haul back the authentic Brewster car for a complete but unexpected restoration! When Larry arrived the Brewster car was still on its original racing trailer from the movie, actually it was still welded to the trailer from its last filming scenes. The RV was also still on location but was in poor shape and sold off to someone else. Unfortunately the trailer was also in very poor shape and had to be cut to safely remove the Brewster car without damaging it. The current state of the Brewster car was in decent shape, the original body by Stock Car Fiberglass was in pretty good condition and the car still had a lot of originality still intact except for most of the engine was gone except for the block. Original parts that still remained from the movie were the original Frankland quick change rear end, original Howe hubs, Howe spindles, Howe coils, steering, Neal pedals and amazingly the original Stewart-Warner gauges and the famous custom made shifter that you can see in the movie!
Once back in Ohio with the car, restoration began first with the engine. Wood created a new powerplant that was consistent with early-1980s vintage of this car. He installed a small block 30 over 350ci with Speed-Pro forged pistons, Air Flow Research heads, Reed flat tappet cam, Holley double pumper carb and Accel Ignition. For a transmission he chose a 2-speed powerglide automatic transmission with a 2800 stall converter so he could easily drive the car around at parades and racing events. One of the finishing touches to the engine was a set of Rayburn valve covers that are a 1 of 1 prototype personally given to Larry from CJ Rayburn. The deal for the valve covers was only if Larry promised to place them on the last and remaining Brewster car! Another final touch was Larry wanted to find the correct tires for the original wheels that were still on the car. Larry called his contact at Goodyear tires and they said the tires were discontinued years ago and not available. A month later a fresh set of Goodyear Short Track tires showed up at Larry's door. Larry called Goodyear back and asked how much do I owe you guys for finding these tires? They replied back nothing as we want donate these tires to the Brewster Baker restoration and they are literally the last set as we found them in the back of our New Jersey warehouse!
Over the years Larry accomplished majority of the magnificent restoration himself but wanted to credit the painting and final detailing to Lloyd Trump of New Madison, Ohio. The correct colors were perfectly matched from the original by Larry Wagner of Dayton, Ohio. Larry was generous to give us plenty of photos of the car before, during and after the restoration and after viewing these photos we have to admit that fate led Larry to restore this special car because there might not be anyone alive that could have done it any better or more correct!
After restoration was complete Larry had the Brewster car in his possession for about ten years before selling it to a local friend who later down the road traded the car to someone else. Then it just so happened that the Brewster car ended up being the featured car at the Celebrity Car Show taking place at Gas Monkey Live in November of 2016. Richard Rawlings and Dennis Collins both remembered the movie and decided to make an offer. The deal happened rather quickly as the owner threw out a number that worked and Richard and Dennis were willing to pay cash that day to make it happen. The flatbed was there within the hour and Richard, Dennis and the owner went back to Gas Monkey Garage where they finalized the deal.

My dad raced for 20+ years. We went to the movie theater (this only happened 4 times in my childhood). I was excited. Everyone at school was talking about E.T. My dad talked me in to Six Pack. I'm not unhappy about that decision. I left there wishing my dad had that car and that I could sit and stare at Breezy all day long (I've never lost that 11 year old crush). It's an awesome memory for me. My dad left this world in 2015. When I hear that song I think of our moment

I met Don Schisler in the 80s when I worked at FORD. He came by the Dealer almost every week. I used to go to his shop on nights and weekends helping to build and maintain Camera Cars and Process Trailers. In 1991 I left FORD Don convinced me to go into the Film industry. I worked with Don for 10 years he was a dear friend and like a father to me. Not a day goes by the I don't think of him, It broke my heart when he passed away.

I believe there were actually 3 movie cars built. This is the only surviving one. I believe it is a Howe Gen 2 or 3 car. This has a complete tube chassis, including front clip. One of the movie scenes in the video above you can see Kenny Rogers driving a different 49 car with a stock Camaro front clip.Love this old movie, my dad raced a Similar Howe Chassis Late Model in early 80's. Saw this car at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Indiana, shortly after restoration about 2 years , racing in a vintage class. motor got hot. Looks to have same motor in it. big shifter looks like it should be a stick shift, but it is actually a 2 speed powerglide.

The car was originally built and owned by John Dole of Parchment, MI and he put it up for sale. A production company contacted him about the car but not only wanted it but him and his business partner Vince to come along to do maintenance on it during filming. John was also in the movie driving the #16 Matrix Camaro. After the movie the car rusted away but was later restored.

I remember seeing this movie at theaters when it came out and I said this is a damn great movie. This was made years before Kenny Rogers made the gambler movies which was a great movie. You hear the theme song and you can't get it out of your head. It was also great to see at the drive in. I am so glad it's available on home video for which I have and on dvd. If you don't have or can't get it on dvd. It is on RU-vid ...i highly insist it is worth a watch or more they don't make movies like this any more. Also listen and look for the soundtrack it's great too. They should maybe make a SIX PACK 2 IN tribute to Kenny Rogers recent passing death.if they do you heard it here first when released on dvd a 12 pack of Kenny Rogers. They also should have done a tribute race collector card of "BREWSTER BAKER"....R.I.P KENNY ROGERS🎼🎵🎤🎸🎬🎥👍🌟👏🏁🏁🏁🏁!!!!!!!!!
