I’ve been waiting for this one for so long because it’s my favorite car of all time and the fact they never really displayed the ‘70 model in particular is a shame ! Thank you thank you so much, I can’t get enough of this beautiful machine
Hey I sat in driver's seat of a purple Daytona. Slant six, column shift Torqueflite and the bench seat was covered with black textured rubber. WTF I said at the time and my brother clued me that it existed because of NHRA rules only.
@@1967davethewave Honestly I don't know why I said slant-six - it had a 318. It definitely had the bullet nose - could it have been a Superbird ? DEFINITELY: purple, black rubber bench seat, column shift, 318 and bullet nose. Dealer was in Kansas City Kansas (and is now gone )
That was probably the one they used in the last part of the Chase Scene in the Movie Bullet . Remember where after the mustang wiped out and was still able to catch up to the slant 6 Charger so easily.
Wait... What?!?! 15-inch CHROME Magnum 500 Road Wheels? Gotta love these early/pre-production films. That was never an option! Neat to see a Charger wearing early "No-Size" Polyglas GT tires. This was definitely filmed the summer of 1969! Anybody else catch the PAINTED loop bumper on the R/T at 8:53 ? I love this stuff!
@@sixtysevendodge No Mopar could come with Chrome, 15-inch Magnums. That became a Ford-specific option as they were the only ones to offer such a wheel. GM only offered a 14-inch Magnum and Mopar too stuck with the 14-inch, painted Magnum. I can only speculate that this film pre-dates Mopar deciding to make (or offer) their own 14-inch or 15-inch "Rallye" wheels on the Charger. The only way to get a factory-offered 15-inch wheel in this era was to get the Rallye Wheel.
Also no 15x7 Magnums in '70. They only came as 14x6. Had to step up to the Rallye wheels to get 15x7 size. But I get the impression this ad predates the creation of the Rallye wheel.
Well yeah, for 2020 please come back with the 2 door Charger 500 and 2 door Charger R/T Someone has to build cars as others going to SUV's. A big 2 door sport touring. I bought an old 73' Pontiac Grand Am that handle very well with same Trans Am 400 V8. Chrysler if you have your ear on please make more 2 door rear wheel cars our kids need to have fun we all had!
I had a '70 R/T in Sublime Green, with the white vinyl top, white stripe, and white interior. It had the 440 magnum, and Super Track Pack, with the Dana 60 and 4.11 gears. Oddly, it also had all the SE options. with power windows, and, get this, power seats. How much did this car cost me when I bought it in clean condition from the original owner in the mid 80's? $700....
@@wesgtx440 Excuse the typo, I've owned literally dozens of Mopars, though the last one was some 25 years ago. If you lived in Southern California, I was a member of the Direct Connection car club, and used to work at R Family Dodge in Huntington Beach.
I bought a '69 R/T in 1981 for $50. The guy was asking $75 but I talked him down to $50 because he couldn't find the title. It was R4 red, 440, A/C, disc brakes, black vinyl top with a black R/T stripe. It didn't run for that money but was rust free, excellent condition body. I was too young to do much with it and my dad eventually sold it when I went away to college. The worst part is he sold it to the junk yard and when I went to try and buy it back a couple of years later it had been crushed. I still have a hard time talking to my dad about that.
1980's was the price low point for muscle cars. I graduated in 1979 and gas prices were shooting up with the opec crisis and people wanted more fuel efficient cars. I had a buddy with a 69 Chevelle 396 4 spd black in and out. He sold it in 1980 and got a suburu brat that had 4wd so he could drive on the beach and fish stripers. The only people that were buying muscle cars were hot rod enthusiasts and these cars were a dime a dozen if you wanted one.
I wonder why the chime that sounds when the next picture appears sounds like the now iconic Mopar seat belt fasten or lights still on chime from the 80s on up to the early 2010’s.
I was just going to post the same thing. I noticed it in the first shot and thought maybe it was just colour bleed from the motion blur. The last shot clearly shows it though. Someone must know the story behind this bumper treatment and why it was axed. I'd love to hear it.
This is a Dodge Charger Dealer Information film to heap dealers learn about the products they will be selling and servicing. They will be selling the Dodge Charger. It is a fairly large car which is also sporty. It particularly appealed to younger customers. The idea was to help the dealers and the motor company sell the car to the customers. The more cars they sold the more money everyone would earn. The car was popular and it was featured in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s hit television show called “The Dukes of Hazzard.” The show was not particularly intellectually challenging but it was funny and heavily watched.
Yeah, but you can't call people "squares" for not buying coupes. Hardly any manufacturer builds them and the few that are made, are usually expensive as they jack up the Insurance costs to own one.
What a period time capsule. The painted front bumper and redline tires on the R/T were bizarre. Wonder what the back story was on that early promo. Interested in 70 Chargers then check out the 70 Charger Registry www.1970chargerregistry.com
Racist and sexist by today's standard (and rightly so)...but likely considered perfectly normal and acceptable in 1970. (An interesting piece of history. Thank you for sharing).
Corny as hell and talk about stereotyping and political incorrectness - the left would be up in arms. Could see some quality control issues. Still one of the coolest cars to come out of the muscle car era.
If America is to ever turn around this decline we need to start talking like this again, get some tougher skin we all have stereotypes and stop lashing out like babies when your low self esteem is flared.
