Real deal Monte Carlo SS 454.
Limited production, luxury, great looks, class and performance ! Tell me why did only 3,823 people order one in 1970 ? This LS5 powered Monte was a factory sleeper in every sense of the word.

Possibly one of the most perfect car designs ever. A ‘step up’ from the Chevelle, which is also awesome. Super color here. Why can’t we have this same car reissued now, just with some modern things. It would sell like crazy. Cheers!
@onjunk4life
@onjunk4life Год назад
Sign me up for one. Dodge was able to make the Hellcat proportions look fairly close, i dont see why GM designers cant do the same. With all the powertrain options GM has it would be a hit !
@ToyKingWonder

Why? Because the moron public is obsessed with SUVs that never go off road, and other SUVs that were never even made to go off road. "Personal luxury coupes" were gone years ago, no one wanted them. Heck, the only regular car Ford even makes any more is the Mustang. I have my dad's 1997 Grand Marquis and it is an incredibly smooth, comfortable car to drive.

Beautiful Monte. Couple observations, '70 Monte SS came stock with a LS-5 360hp 454, thus A/C could be ordered. You could not order a 4spd, they were built factory only with a TH400 in the SS. The $420 SS option also included a 3:31 axle, F41 suspension, heavy duty shocks and springs, and upgraded sway bars and more. One thing that has been removed, besides the A/C compressor, is the factory automatic level control system. There should be a large bullet shaped air compressor that would sit on top of the driver inner fender. I've owned one for years, they are very unique and a blast to drive.

I had a 72 with a 454, th400 and 12 bolt posi. A guy at work told me about it. I got the number of the older couple that bought it new. They said they wanted an SS. When they found out 71 was the last year, they ordered it like one. Tach and gauges, floor shifter and console. Frame was holey. So after a couple of years of driving it I parted it. Wish I had fixed it. I kept the drivetrain and am using the engine now. The car in the video is really sweet.

I learned to drive in her Chevelle and fondly remember how easily her car could do burnouts. I remember doing a telephone pole to telephone pole burnout with it right before she put new tires on it when I was 16. My first car I bought when I was 17 was a '63 Impala SS 327. My girlfriends younger brother picked up one of these with a 454. He was boat crazy at that time, making weekly runs to the lakes 240 miles away. He heard about a change of cam, plus installed a different carburater, and pushed his mileage up to 24 mpg while towing a boat! The ride on these cars were stable, with good cornering, as opposed to many big cars of the day.

@@onjunk4life I wished I'd paid more attention to that chanage up! After getting his fill of drag racing, he made that change to a big block Corvette as well, as his best girl friend was 75 miles away on the Super Slab and he needed the gas saving $. Generally, he said both those cars pulled away like a good 318, but with better torque. I see the attraction, but you got to do the wrenching correct, which he did.
@channell11
@channell11 Год назад
That's some real voodoo magic to see that kind of mileage out of a 454 towing a boat. Even choking it off with a two barrel and leaning out the cruise that doesn't seem possible even unloaded.
@johnshields9110
@johnshields9110 Год назад
@@channell11 This particular guy previously owned a 454 in a Corvette, so he had experience as levering HP and tricks for mileage. His neighbor sponsored and ran a AA track car, so he had access to various hot rodding voodoo. I had a '79 280ZX with a 5 speed, and got 29 mi/gal for years until a dick mechanic reset it to factory settings! Dropped the mpg by 3 mi and took 7 mph off topend. Voodoo does happen.

Brother Jack Reyes collects chevy cars when we were growing up and one day he pulled a Monte Carlo in green (Bowling Green) and green cloth interior color and came with a SBC here in San Vicente Village, Saipan. I think one of the Coast Guard brought the car to the island and left it.

I hade a friend in High School that had a 70 Monte Carlo with a LT-! In it (350 cubic inch, 350 horsepower) with a factory four speed. He was a master at power shifting and would eat up big block Chevelles.

Yea, there were a lot of cars that were unsuspecting back then. Sort of like the 87-93 Foxbody Mustang LX 5.0’s. I have several and with some gear and exhaust they feel fast and held their own. I would still put money on my 505ci disguised as a 396 70SS Chevelle anyday lol

360 hp...hmm, sounds like this 454 was of the LS-5 variety. Not like the 450-hp LS-6, but not bad nonetheless. Beautiful old 'Monte you got here. It just occurred to me Chevy should've offered Cadillac's Black Cherry paint as an option on this car. It would've looked TOTALLY bad-ass wearing THAT!
