I'm always so amazed and impressed when someone can take on such a mess. Those are so rare, and such a beloved little coupe. They were one of the most beautiful little cars. It's a resurrection from a grave of rust. It looks like the most important bits were there. First restoration? - wow, great job.
Nice vid. Had a P1800 as first car after college. Loved that car and kept it for years, although it had ongoing electrical issues mainly with the electronic overdrive. Eventually it got too much to keep up and sold it to a dealer. Still miss it. You did an amazing restoration. I wouldn’t try on something that far gone. Great job.
I just kept them on the roads. I had what looked like a clean one in the 1990s in chicago, body on top looked good, interior was good, but frame rails were shot, shift gears and the rear end shifted, like driving a bowl of jelly down the road. I had a 1962 122s in chicago same situation, as well. In both cases we had to weld a new frame rail in ,which gave us a few more years on the road. But I never went through 1/100th effort you went threw, they werent worth that much in the 1990s. We were taking our lives into our own hands . Ah to be young and stupid again. Incredible effort.
Hella gutsy taking on a car that rusty. You’ve got some mad welding/fabricating skills. I used to work as a parts counter guy in a Volvo dealership. Always loved the P1800. Thanks for sharing.
NIIIICE job. Did a '62 myself, and I know how much attention to detail you put into this one. Unfortunately, there are a lot of these cars out there in the condition you started out with, but not enough people out there with the determination and skills to put and keep them on the road. Kudos to you, sir.
I restored the same P1800E in 1988 but I haven't finished the project. SINCE 1988 the Body and the parts are waiting to ensembled. I seen the pics and I remembered at all. These car was a important part of my life, thank you!
Absolutely astonishing restauration, good job! Interesting to see someone take on such a long gone object, a true classic absolutely, but nevertheless. If this was you´r first car to renovate, then you Sir, have found you´r call. Thank you for resisting against LS swap, digital instrument and so on..
Stopped halfway to get my thoughts together - but only one word comes to mind . Heroic. Bet you'll never leave it parked outside with the windows rolled down again. ;) Fantastic job.
What an awesome restoration, a full rotisserie restoration of a P-1800, cars like these you seldom see on the road, when you see the quality & effort put into bringing this car back to life.
Wow Nellie!!!!! Awesome blend of patience, determination, money and vision. As one of my stickers says"Life is too short to drive boring cars". And you ,my man, seem to harbor that notion as well! Now back to work on my"63 P1800s.
You Sir are a true craftsman. Outstanding job, metal work like that is an art and takes lots of talent and patience. Thanks for sharing such a cool timelapse and saving another classic from the junkyard. You have a beautiful classic to enjoy for a long time. Dave
I sought out a video like yours to see what was involved in sill and wheel arch repairs to the 1800 body. While I have restored a couple of British cars I am on the fence regarding taking on an 1800 that is available to me. After watching your video I feel like a wimp for not jumping on the opportunity. Thanks for sharing your 4 years of beautiful and detailed work.
All I can say,you guys are brilliant engineers and having the patience taking on this huge challenge. Start of the video and seen all that rust, i thought never. Brilliant job well done, that Volvo looks spanky new.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Phenomenal job! From start to finish you took care of that amazing piece of history! I hope you and your family get to enjoy the fruits of your labor!🫡
Wow truly a labor of love. And 1800 hours of labor! 😂 as quickly as I thought “just buy a less rusty car” I also though “I’m glad someone took the time to keep another from the crusher.” Thank you. I hope you’re still enjoying it!
A quite extraordinary achievement, Dave. Congratulations on your patience and craftsmanship. Your sense of satisfaction must be enormous. To say 'well done' is a wholly inadequate compliment. Peter from London.
Gorgeous work. I just picked up one of these, a 1966 in very good condition but I'm afraid to touch anything to do some necessary fixes. This video gives me hope and inspiration. Thank you! (Sorry for the late comment lol)
Dave, just found your video. You have done a great FULL restoration of your Volvo. Congratulations on having the determination and commitment to restore your car over several years and not take short cuts. You can now proudly enjoy many miles of happy motoring. Fantastic job.
Incredible effort you have 5000 times the patience I have, I kept the 122s on the road but thats about it, I painted one 122s wagon, inside and out and I definitely made mistakes
Wow, I restored a 1956 VW Bug-- body off chassis years ago, so I can appreciate what you did here. I Hope to see your treasure at some of the New Jersey Volvo club meets.
Wow, a true labour of love. You did it right. A friend of mine's dad had the station wagon version of this in the 90's. Wish I had offered him some bucks to get it restored.
I have the same car with little rust only on the hood hinges and the trunk and was worried about required work. You encouraged me to take it on. Hopefully will make a video like yours.
Absolutely fabulous job - P1800's are not an easy restoration ( no bolt on wings for starters) and it is difficult to get the shutlines spot on. Very well done Dave!
I wish you had done a series of videos of that because I see what you've done (HUGE respect), but I can't conceive of the skill you had to employ to do it.
I learned to drive in one of these. Helped my dad drop a Capri V6 in it and boy was that a wall to wall fit. Had to rebuild the trany twice after that. Haven't driven anything that handled as well since.
I just scored a 70 1800e in fairly better shape than this, and this video gave me some serious confidence in it. Showed me a lot of things I need to do and gave me an idea of how to do it. Thanks!
You did an awesome restoration, plus you are not afraid of taking challenges, no matter what, the end result proves it,👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👌🏽
