He mentioned Le Mans; I was picturing him making the old style Le Mans start, run across the track, swing open the door... and time comes to a crawl as Jay attempts to get into his race car. Finally, the engine comes alive and Jay has to wait for the track to clear as the leaders are passing the start/finish line! It's gonna be a looooong day. ;^)

The guy who designed and built it was Jem Marsh and I think his partner was a guy called Costin. - Mar-Cos. Had the chance to buy the ‘barn find’ prototype back in the 70s, which had the plywood chassis but the wife said no !
@citronr1
@citronr1 2 года назад
Jem MARsh and Philip COStin developed the Marcos. Get it? MAR-COS. However the guest mentioned that. Jem (Jeremy) Marsh was an honorable man. Nearly 13 months into the ownership of my 1969 Marcos 3 Liter V6 (Wood) I blew a valve on the Essex (ex Ford Zodiak) V6 and even though there was no warranty because I was in the US and the Marcos was never sold there. There was no arguing. I simply wrote Jem Marsh and told what what had happened. He responded graciously with an apology and shipped me an entire new engine short block to me in Michigan and paid for it's installation as well. They don't make them like that anymore.

It was designed by Frank Costin, an engineer who as they mentioned had been involved with designing the Mosquito in WWII which was a standout fighter/bomber made of plywood, just like this car was made of at first. I am really surprised they didn't go into more details about him because Costin was a genius and so was his brother Mike Costin who was a co-fouder of Cosworth Engineering! HELLO... they made the Cosworth race car engines? This Marcos car should be worth a bloody fortune and probably will be once people figure out the back story. Way back in 1962 my mum did B&B (bed and breakfast) in a village just outside Torquay , Devon, England, named Kingskerswell. One day a chap dropped in to stay driving a Volvo Amazon as it happened. He stayed for about a week as l recall but, one moment l do remember is he showed us some plans of a forthcoming car he and his partner were designing. Think you've guessed what it was. Even at the age of nine l could not believe how beautiful the car looked. I even thought it looked better than Uncle Arthur's e-type! The petrol cap looks like it could be from an early XJ6 (obviously fitted at a later date) Someone sussed the rear lights are from a Vauxhall Victor, very well done! As always Jay, really enjoy the show!

Even though my daughter and I are in the middle of restoring a 1970 Triumph Bonneville T 120 R (she fell in love with this basket case bike and I kinda got sucked in), I'm not a big fan of anything British. However, this car is flat out GORGEOUS! The old "Trumpet" will be too once she's finished. We're going completely stock on the bike but baby girl is having trouble deciding on the colors. The funny thing about this restoration is that some guy saw us rolling the bike around outside my shop with no engine. He stopped and offered us $1000 for the roller. My daughter told him it's not for sale since it's a daddy/daughter project. He said ok, so, how bout $600 for just the gas tank and Triumph emblems (which happen to be in mint condition), again, she said no. I wonder what his offer would've been if he'd known that we also have a N.O.S. Lucas tail light in the box on a shelf inside the shop. Doesn't matter, the answer still would've been no.
