I bought a new Teal Blue Midget in 1971, YOH542J. It was just under 1000 Pounds. I drove really carefully for first 3 months but needed clutch plate replacement so I suspect it had been thrashed pre delivery. The pipe connecting to the dash oil pressure gauge came loose and squirted hot oil everywhere. Regrettably had to sell in 1972 to buy first house. Fun little car. Happy days.

May you have many more happy miles ahead. Always nice to see older cars enjoyed and looked after. Well done!

This looks a lot like my mom’s old 1973 Citrus colored Midget. My dad had a roll bar installed in it and the steering wheel was on the opposite side (I’m from the US.)

I believe the colour is called "Harvest Gold".

It’s actually “Camino Gold” - harvest is very close however.

Less than £2,000.00 GB sterling for all that work seems an absolute bargain to me. In the UK most garages would charge that just to open the hood. Happy Motoring.

Another great and interesting video. I’m curious to know if that is the original paint colour. I remember a very similar colour being used by Triumph in the UK around that period but the MG ‘yellows’ I think were different, ie darker or lighter than Mag! Cheers…

Yes it is original and I found the name, Camino Gold

Great film Simon. I can’t help thinking of the juxtaposition with your ~ 5m V8 Grand Tourers and this peppy little thing. Nice contrast. On getting in the driving seat it, I think it’s more a case of slipping it on like a pair of overalls. It is money well spent on getting it up to scratch, I agree I’d get that loom done. Was that a stainless-steel exhaust?

Yes, SS exhaust.

You should bring the MG to historic nights at Marrickville metro new section tomorrow night.

Just curious if the previous owner had the valve seats replaced so it can use unleaded fuel safely.

How much is an Aussie dollar worth compared to American? I bought a near perfect almost fully restored 77 mgb for, wait for it, 5000 u.s.d. These cars are not bringing that kind of money anywhere I've ever heard of. Granted I got a great deal, but 11k than all that work? Yikes, good luck with it, she's pretty and I'm sure a great driver.

71 vs 77 though. Lower demand for the rubber bumper models and they are considerably cheaper than the older chrome bumpered cars

Seems like alot of money. Whats an Aussie dollar to American. These cars are had for 5 grand here still. Im hoping my mgb goes up in value, as I think theyre ridiculously under valued

Australia is a unique market - everything is more expensive even accounting for FX rates.

It is important to have at least some basic mechanical knowledge when owning a Classic car and keeping the costs down. Parts are very cheap for these cars but labour and knowledge is expensive if you dont know what you are doing. These are very simple cars and maintenance is easily learnt with manuals available. Paying a garage to maintain your car is not a good way to run a classic car. But hey, if you have bottomless pockets , best of luck.

So you spent $5k tidying up a nearly 60 year old car! How far would $5k go servicing a 6 month old Tesla?
@mindtpi
@mindtpi 4 месяца назад
Aside from the fact they have a 5 year warranty (8 year on battery), why would you be spending $5k servicing a 6 month old Tesla anyway?
@jimjohnson8864
@jimjohnson8864 4 месяца назад
@@mindtpi the suspension on teslas collapse not covered on warranty, slightest mark on floor pan/ battery replacement again not covered

You're apparently rich so that helps in owning a Midget and also for living in Australia... You did get cheated out of the 3rd windshield wiper you would have gotten in the USA... LOL!
