Hello and welcome to my channel! I want to introduce my 1971 Plymouth Barracuda project car. This car requires a complete restoration and I will do my best to document the process in what will be a long series of videos.
In this episode I install the complete QA1 Mopar suspension system! That includes a new tubular k frame, tubular upper & lower control arms, rack & pinion steering, 4 link, Wilwood brakes & a whole lot more! Settle in & buckle up! There's a TON of progress made in this one! Be sure to stay until the end to see a HUGE surprise!
If you like my RU-vid content, please consider subscribing to stay up to date. ALSO, check out our Instagram page @rust_bucket_restos as well as our merch available on this page. Thanks for watching!

Wow, 15k, it looks expensive, this beast is gonna handle awesome, you talk about beefy, it`s not gonna handle like they did from the factory, I used to trade my buddy, he would use my ford van with the bed in the back, of course, and I would take his 70 Plum Crazy 383 Challenger, it did doughnuts with the 383, you will have your hands full my friend, at least you got the suspension taken care of, looks great, this build is Epic with the sponsorship you aquired, awesome.

Unless u want the body of the car to move sideways over the rear axel on hard cornering like the old 5.0 liter Foxbody mustangs from 1979 - 1993, u will have to put either an adjustable Panhard bar or a Watts linkage on your rear axel set-up. If u don't u will have constant oversteer when going around a corner quickly. I have learned this from experience the hard way on all 4 link suspensions.

You will LOVE this front and rear suspension. It is a Carl Gerst design and I had a little bit to do with the final design. The lower control arm on this system is the ONLY aftermarket double shear design. All others are one long bolt with single shear on each end... I discussed this with Carl several years ago and he put it right into the final design. Now I just have to come up with the money for this system myself!! lol...

Alex Taylor tore apart one of those Hellcat Challengers for a competition, and you shoulda seen the literal mountain of Wiring they took outta that car from front to back regulating the Engine...she said it took a little more than a tenth of the weight of the Car away taking all that crap out...

Very cool build.. question tho.. wouldn’t it be better to finish the underside with undercoat before installing all this ? If it’s mocking up I get that, but usually what I see in most builds similar to this is that all the welds are dressed and primed painted then seal coated and undercoat applied before the running gear, brakes and suspension is installed.. just curious.. love the build !!! Love goes out. 💯
@rustbucketrestos6511
@rustbucketrestos6511 Год назад
I prefer to put weight on the car before dialing in all of the body gaps. The 4 link also needed to be welded in before the next state which will be blasting & epoxy. Stay tuned!

@rustbucketrestos6511 Год назад
Tranny is in already too 😋. Believe it or not, it weighs 150 lbs on its own! I like to have as much weight on the car as possible before doing any gapping or panel matching. You should do all of that work on the ground at ride height.
@bikerdude5691
@bikerdude5691 Год назад
Nice work brother! Are you going to put the axle housing in a jig when you fully weld the tabs in? I have heard some stories of the axle housings warping when welding tabs in.
@rustbucketrestos6511
@rustbucketrestos6511 Год назад
Probably not. I was able to weld each of the tabs in about 1/2 already. The rest isn’t accessible with the axle in the car.

I will be using blue loctite when I final assemble & detail everything at the end. Using loctite & grease now makes disassembly a messy pain in a few days when it all has to come back off again for blasting & epoxy.

Are your plans to race this car? If so what kind of racing do you plan to do? The picture of the car on the lead-in to the video looks like it sits significantly higher off the ground than the original suspension stance from the factory. My concern is that may be OK for general driving, but for racing where high speeds, say 90mph and above, it is easier for a car to become airborne, especially if the body gets sideways to the direction of travel. Under airborne conditions you loose all control over the car. You may want to consider an air dam at the front to help keep air from getting underneath the car. A tail-wing structure at the rear would add directional stability like the Dodge and Plymouth superbird designs. I would not want to see you get killed due to any oversight in design approach. Be careful! We want to see you do more cars in the future!

your lower trailing arm mounts the bolts are sticking out towards the inside of the tire would they not be better if the bolt head was towards the inside of the tire and the threads sticking towards the center of the car? clearance is all I am thinking about here. I’ll stick to ma MOPAR front end thanks sorry there ways to improve it . Old school MOPAR Power plant to .plus the T/Flight or factory 4 speed way more fun actually old 340 or big blocks sound so much better then the lap top modern V8 . if you brake down your on a toe truck to there work shop to plug it in sorry but true. Yes your build is done well . But not the same fun that a original Cuda can bring . Iv seen an driven MOPAR at high speed the way ma MOPAR made them even on tracks here in Australia 🇦🇺 Greg click VJ 340 Charger at Bathurst running very high speed an out running GMH an Ford .👍🏻Tilly’s VF Valiant Pacer running high speed time after time at speeds your lap top MOPAR will never see. an yes ma MOPAR front end with only small modes . We’re do you plan to drive yours 🤔. It’s a matter of wheel an tyre combo shock an alien an old school no how . I’ll take old school MOPAR anyday sorry enjoy your build it’s different that’s for sure 🤦🏼😮😵‍💫😀your happy . Don’t be surprised when a old school MOPAR blows you away in the quarter Mile it will happen sorry to say 💰💸.stay happy it’s not everyone cup of tea though . It’s a talking point .👍🏻🇦🇺💯⛽️ill watch to see your outcome in the future 🤔.
