Lots of marking time and standing still. Their drills got much more imaginative quite quickly after this. Excellent musical show, and a fat horn sound. I memorized every note of this from the album. Don't get me started on those amazing snare drums.
Yes, I much prefer the fatter sound of the older snare drums. Todays are way too high-pitched for my taste. As a matter of fact, I liked everything about older drum corps stuff much more than I do now, but there's no denying that talent is talent, no matter which era is being considered.
I became a Lancer fan in 1971 after listening to a recording of the 71 world open. I just remember how clean and powerful the hornline was. first saw them at 72 us.open. to me they were always the best and Jim wedge was the best arranger.
I was there the 1st year of DCI, and what a show by all, Blue Star got skanked and should have won, but hey, that was almost 40 years ago! Thanks for posting this, I knew this video existed somewhere
@@louisfudale8419 I was able to tell listen to Drumline What drum corps was playing ,also when I would listen to the horn line I know exactly what drum and bugle Corps was playing, and I can do this when they're practicing outside the stadium far away I've been involved with drum and bugle course, since I was 9 years .old I am now 78 years old . former snare drummer, played in olph 1950s through 1959, 60 + 61 Floyd Bennett golden eagles, 64 through 68 Long Island sunrises. one of the founders of American Spirit in Tampa Bay Florida, along with John Dowling , may he rest in peace. and Mike Johnson early 90s
First Drum corps record I bought was 1971 World Open with the Cadets ,Blue Rock,Boston Crusaders and 27th. Great arrangements with Blue Rock high drums and 27th high horns.
