This 1972 Buick Sales Ideas training film explains many features of the new '72 Sportwagon and Estate Wagon. Listen closely at the 2:48 mark as the narrator mistakenly refers to the ’72 Sportwagon a ’71 model.
This video was originally a filmstrip with the sound coming from a companion 33 rpm vinyl record that contained beeps to indicate when to advance to the next slide.
Be sure to Like the video and Subscribe to The Steele Garage if you would like to see more videos like this one. Videos for all other '72 Buick models have already been uploaded to this channel.

In 1972 my dad had a choice of the sport wagon or the vista cruiser for my mom. He chose the latter.

Thanks for posting . It would have been a tough choice between a Buick Sportwagon and an Olds Vista Cruiser. 😁

By that time the Sportwagon name was debased to the former Special Deluxe wagon, a standard A-body the same as a Chevy Chevelle wagon. The Vista-Cruiser still had (for one more year) the stretched wheelbase and roof windows.

And these were only half the wagons a Buick dealer had on offer in '72, there was also the Opel 1900 Wagon (Kadett Caravan) and Opel 1900 Sportwagon (Ascona Voyage) which overlapped on the US market that one year only. Oddly both were two-doors although the Ascona version was meant to replace a 4-door Kadett wagon as more of a proto-lifestyle vehicle rather than an independent tradesman's dual-use vehicle which was what wagons, traditionally all 2-doors, were percieved as in Germany up to that point.

I find it strange that the largest European sourced wagons and the smallest domestic wagons got the "sport" moniker.

Nice, but I would really rather have an Oldsmobile....

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll be uploading more '67-'72 Buick films very soon.

Why is he saying 1971 at 2:49 when he says 1972 in the rest of the video?

It's a mistake by the film makers. It's not uncommon to find mistakes in these old training films. They never figured we would be listening over 50 years later. :) Thanks for watching.
