1972 C10 LS SWAP Build Series PT.3 

I know I'm a few years late but it''s because I'm just now getting around to my LS swap in my c10. But that was really clean in there for 220k miles. I did LS rebuilds on trucks and SUVs at a small dealership for a few years it was pretty interesting some of the shit you find in there. They're so resilient it's incredible.

Before torqueing the oil pump. Hand tighten the bolts. Spin the motor over a couple of times to center the pump. Same on front cover. Since the pan wasn't there to locate it. Also a straight edge on the back of the pan to block surface/face

I second that with the castech heads. I had to swap out an avalanche motor and there was so much sludge under the valve covers you couldn’t see the springs. Nice work so far.

Yea I really need to invest in a new 1/2” impact. My old air impact just isn’t cutting it anymore.

Once again, these exhaust manifolds are a weldable alloy, but broken bolts at one or both ends is aluminum on cast iron movement. I suggest “Speed Engineering” headers in Stainless steel but use a rat-tail file chucked in a drill, use a 4” length of emt conduit to water pipe to guide the file CCW or CW in the hole to oblong the hole, front to rear, even on headers. Place a flat wash under the bolts head to allow sliding to prevent future braking. You missed the opportunity to modify the oil pump by using a dremal and bit to smooth out the inlet and outlet side of the internal edges of the pump. This improves oil flow and reduces the possibilities of cavitation. Adding a single flat washer under the spring of the oil pressure relief spring will help increase oil pressure as even spring steel looses tension over hot/cold cycles. I am lost.
