1972 Ford Mustang Mach1 Trunk Pan Removal 

Wow a convertible, that’s a rare car. I’ve tried to weld to metal that had rust on it and in the end it turned out to be too thin to weld on and would have been easier to just cut out and put new metal in from the start.

I went with the pan from national parts depot.

@@SteffsGarage i do have a big question for you. Have you had any luck finding a non-chrome front bumper? I have a 71 Mach 1 I'm restoring and can't find one.

Man I really appreciate the kind comment. I literally just got the trunk pan in last week and I’ll be installing it coming up soon. I have a bunch of Dodge dart GT metalworking footage I’m editing now and that car will be leaving my house 1 February and then the mach1 project is going to take priority. I would anticipate another two weeks before the trunk pan install happens. Part of the problem I’m facing is the trunk pain is so large and the trunk opening is so small you can’t get it in the car in one piece so I’m going to have to cut the trunk pan down and re-weld it back together once it’s in. The reason you would want to do this versus put it in in one piece is that my tail light panel is in great shape and I don’t wanna sacrifice that factory sheet metal for a piece of aftermarket sheet metal. The other route would be to cut the tail light panel out and reinstall it after you’ve slit in the full trunk pan that’s some thing I don’t think I want to do but I will explain how to do it in the next video as an alternative to what I’m doing.

@@SteffsGarage Better to cut the aftermarket pan than an intact tail light panel, don't do it. Otherwise you had to stabilize the whole rear, too...

I do have some plans for that. I am in the middle of doing the aprons up front and then the strut corssmember. Then I will do the trunk.
