The 1972 Ford Gran Torino is so beautiful, the car itself can remind me of the movie Gran Torino (2008), which is actually named after the main character’s (Walter Kowalski - Clint Eastwood) beloved car (a dark green 1972 Ford Gran Torino Sportsroof. :)
I had a 72 G Torino Sport, wish I still had it,a real looker,a 351CJ engine,A 4sp. man. and posi w/sway bars, in addition to p.window/air cond. in the car you have is SUPER RARE,my man, didn't even see ONE in the early 80's when I had mine. Damn, taking that out for a blast on a summer, Sunday morning, the looks, the roar,HEAVEN
Beautiful rig you've got there!! 1988 a coworker "sold" me his 1972 Torino (base model, not "Gran Torino") for $1. Major difference being the grill in the base extended to the fender edges, and therefore didn't have the beautiful headlight bezels, or oval grille. More formal roof line, not the sport roof. 302 2v with an FMX trans. How I LOVED that car. Always regretted getting rid of it. 5 years later, I bought a BEAUTIFULLY preserved 1976 Merc Cougar XR7, ( every bit a Torino) all black, black interior, console, full guages like yours. 100% original down to the paint, vinyl roof, headlight bulbs and still had factory muffler for 40 years. I lovingly cared for that machine over 14 years. Shortly before the engine rebuild, I found a very rare package only available one year for the 351W: factory 4BBl heads, manifold and 4300 carb. (I know, the carbs were finicky at best) Mild Melling RV cam, TRW 9.5:1 pistons and the '69 4BBL swap made it a real joy and woke it up a bit. Needing funds before a rotten divorce, I sold the car in 2009 and cried all the way home. Here's the point: you don't get these machines back. Love it, care for it and think twice, no...ten times before you part with it! Enjoy that machine! Drive it carefully!Great video. Thanks for sharing!
I saw this video long ago and for the longest time I wanted a 1972 gran torino. 3 weeks ago I bought a 1972 gran torino with a 351 cobra jet. It isnt a sport model but thats ok for me. Glad I found this video again!
My dad had a Torino back in the day with a 351 Cleveland in it. He loved that car. I ended up becoming a bike guy, and it's amazing how much engine technology has changed since then. My supercharged Kawi H2 (998cc) probably makes as many HP (it's 250 at the crank) as this Torino, and gets 40 mpg riding in legal mode.
Thanks for sharing this great car and keeping it stock. My brother had a gold glow 72, a friend had a blue one, but the crème de la crème was Ron's with a 429, yellow with white bucket interior that put down a single strip of rubber you couldn't believe. All these were formal roof/automatics I didn't know they made them with 4 speeds
I love the hard top black as well.I have a similar story ,my mom gave me her 72 red cobra jet fastback after my dad died when I graduated from I school.it was purchased new in 72 at Norris ford in baltimore which is still in business for $4500.I sold it in 1995 to a gentleman who purchased it for his son. Regret selling it but I still own a muscle car to the day .I'm 61😁
Joe Smith I had that car once in my early 20s..a fastback and a girl in the passenger seat and i thought my life was complete ..for a short time anyway.
Great story and Dad. My parents couldn't give a lick shit about me getting a vehicle when I got my license in HS. A coworker of my Mom felt sorry for me and let me have her car. This was after College..
My first car was a Gold 1972 Gran Torino Sport with a 351 CobraJet engine (American Block, not Windsor). The engine was rare enough that someone offered me the same amount that I paid for the entire car, but only wanted the engine which was only 2 years old. Great memories.
I love your car man! My dad had one as his first car back in the 80's. His was too far gone though and in 93 due to financial reasons he was forced to sell it. I love your style man and your decision to keep it original. I'm trying to find one for my dad but they are too expensive for me. I will buy him one some day because that car meant so much to him.
That's a great car you have there! The 73 and later Torino didn't have the unique styling of tbe 72s. and it's great that you are keeping it Stock, these cars are original only once. Take good care of her and enjoy!!
Nice ride we had a green one in 1982 when I was eleven it was a scoop hood and had a 351 Cleveland the radiator was bad in it.We sold it for like 200.00.Wish I had it now...
Lucky kid. Should get plenty of poontang with it. Your dad really loves you and is considerate. My kid will also be just as lucky. I plan on keeping my 85 BMW m635csi for him to use on date nights etc and I'm gonna be just like Clint Eastwood in gran Torino being hard on his case so he grows up right.
+nigel nuj haha yeah. High school was a blast while driving this around man. Got all the attention haha. Im actually looking to buy a 03-04 Mach 1 right now
What kind of transmission does it have, I have the same car except it's mustard yellow and automatic and frankly I'm pretty much gonna make it the same as yours, simple.
My friend I hope that is your car because it is one of the nicest forever design compared to the bubblegum cars they designed today technology is here bring back the old design with the new technology
I had a 1972 Gran Torino Sport that I bought new and it was the worst piece of crap I've ever owned. Only a Chevy Vega I bought afterward was worse. The Torino broke virtually time I put the key into the ignition and the dealership was even worse. I was so happy to get rid of it and then jumped for joy when I learned that the dealer had gone bankrupt. Have I driven a Ford lately? HELL NO!
