We continue our walk down memory lane today, with a Friday tribute to an iconic ABC television series that defined Friday night's for half a decade... The Brady Bunch.
The series ran for five seasons, from September 26, 1969 to March 8, 1974, amassing a total of 117 episodes. From Tiger to porch chops & applesauce to Marcia, Marcia, Marica, to getting Davy Jones, to Johnny Bravo, this series has become an iconic television series that brings a smile to people's faces. You can't do much better than that over fifty years.
So much has been written about the show over the decades, and we've done our fair share of tributes to the series over the past five years. It was one of our favorite series in childhood, and continues to be one of our favorite television series all-time. It has become a cultural touch-stone, bringing back a more simple time that was nevertheless anchored in one of the most complex and challenging times in history - the late 1960s and first half of the 1970s. A great many things happened during that 1969 to 1974 time span, and yet, The Brady Bunch is that 'calm in the storm' memory of that era.
We pay tribute to the show tonight, along with all the many spin-offs, TV-movies, feature films, stage productions, cartoons, books, and television specials that have come over the past half century, bringing 'all-things-Brady' back into our daily lives.
The three most successful half-hour comedy television series in the long history of television rerun syndication are I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch. That is both a tribute to the lasting, timeless staying power of those three series, but also to the talent and charisma of the people in front of and behind the cameras that made those series what they were and still are. Timeless entertainment that brings a smile when people see the shows, or just hear the name 'The Brady Bunch', 'I Love Lucy', 'Gilligan's Island.'
We thank Sherwood Schwartz for being the creator and mastermind behind The Brady Bunch (and Gilligan's Island). and we pay tribute and thanks to him and to the cast and crew of The Brady Bunch. Well done !
Here's the story....

Robert Reed walked off the show before the final episode was filmed. Greg looked like he was dressed up for prom, not a graduation.

Robert Reed refused to do the episode if the script wasn’t changed. Sherwood Schwartz called his bluff and took him out of the script, and told his agent that Reed’s services wouldn’t be needed that week. Reed came to the set anyway and watched the whole thing being filmed. Schwartz said he would have thrown Reed off the set but Reed was close to the kids and Schwartz didn’t want the kids to see that.

Exactly, a tuxedo t-shirt wouldve been just as good.

I think this was the episode Oliver and Bobby changed Greg's hair green and RR thought that was stupid. Saying he was on a business trip was dumb, there was no way he would miss any of the kids graduating. As a 13 year old at the time, didn't realize that was the end.

Greg's Hair Was Orange Oliver Had Nothing To Do With It , BTW Robert Reed Didn't Want To Be In This Episode Because He Thought It Was Dumb As He Was Standing Off Stage !

I will admit that not to many guys would have on a Tuxedo on their graduation Day. Usually guys just wear a shirt and tie and dress pants. Of course, in 1974 during the end of the series, I was only 11 years old. Great show however. Thanks 👍.

Sad that Cousin Oliver got the last line in the series.

We were thinking the same thing. It has been a few years since we had seen this last episode, and as we were watching it last weekend as we were putting together this BB tribute, we were also disappointed that Cousin Oliver had the very last line in the series. He was (in our humble opinion) totally unnecessary to the show; but that's show-biz. - staff
