When football was great. Defenses at such a disadvantage nowadays, with no intentional grounding calls (outside tackles), and no touching receivers past five yards.
@@chrisuncleahmad That's why you saw more 1K yard rushers instead of 5K yard Passers. At least they could remove outside the tackles. Intentional grounding rule is pretty much non existent.
@@chrisuncleahmad True too. That's why when people talk about the GOAT especially at QB and I think, how would Johnnie Unitas and Bart Starr do today with all the rule changes and domed stadiums. Think about Jim Brown with his speed and strength and not running in the mud all the time like playing Green Bay, New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Philadelphia. If he had today's conditioning and lineman that could use their hands, and wow what records he could have achieved.

@@chrisuncleahmad there was a thing called "defense" which was my point ; thats why qbs didnt throw for 4000 yds in half a season defense was a valid part of the game back than the owners and corporations used "focus groups" same as all products and corps do now and they determined that the casual fan prefers MORE POINTS rather than a balanced struggle between offense and defense hence they changed the rules more and more over the years until we have the perfect game for the casual sports fan: 90% offense/10% defense like most gen z-ers you are obviously hurt that you missed something that was INFINITELY more sophisticated an better than what you have today not my problem p.s. baltimore buffalo denver st louis los angeles washington new england houston ALL had good or great teams during the 1970s in the 80s we had the 49ers redskins raiders giants buffalo again the jets (in the early 80s) chicago san diego (early 80s) miami cincinnati philadeliphia dallas cleveland ALL with good/great teams so you are DEAD WRONG about their being no "parity"
i was a major dolphin fan; this game broke my heart and made me a steeler fan the very next week just in time for the steelers to win 4 of the next 6 superbowls thank you oakland
There wasn’t a bigger Raider fan in the 70s and I thought I could ID every player that played for the SB in the decade, but I never heard of Bob Prout (No. 29, 1:25-1:30) or Knox, the college he played for. Played two games with Oakland in ‘74 and seven with the Jets the following season.

One of the classic games when the NFL was in its prime, before it had turned into the overhyped overofficiated crap it is today, I'll never forget this game.
This 1974 Playoff game has a lot of Pro Football Hall of Fame members. Oakland Raiders: Al Davis, John Madden, Jim Otto, Kenny Stabler, Cliff Branch, Fred Biletnikoff, Gene Upshaw, Art Shell, Ray Guy, George Blanda. Miami Dolphins: Don Shula, Bob Griese, Paul Warfield, Larry Csonka, Larry Little, Nick Buonoconte. Game called by the legendary Curt Gowdy for NBC and Bill King for KGO AM 810.
If the raiders had beat Pittsburgh the next week it would of but they didn’t win they didn’t go to the Super Bowl that year, Pittsburgh did and beat the Vikings in #9
Before the Raiders and Steelers rivalry it was the Raiders vs Dolphins rivalry. This would be the 3rd time that Raiders and Dolphins squared off in the playoffs. People forget about how big this rivalry and this game really was.
My parents were Raiders season ticket holders from the mid 60’s until they went to Los Angeles in 82 and this was the most emotional I ever saw them after a game. I’ll never forget it.
Funny that there was so much talk at the end of this video about this win erasing so much Raider hurt, when a brand new game hurt was done to Oakland all over again the next Sunday.
@@kashakamcpherson9719 That was on radio. On the radio, King called “Touchdown Raiders!”, but at first did not know who caught the pass. It was Don Meredith who on television said “He caught it! He caught it!”
