The first season of IROC ended on Friday February 15th, two days before the 1974 Daytona 500. Six drivers were eliminated after the third race, leaving Mark Donohue, Peter Revson, David Pearson, George Follmer, Bobby Unser, and A.J. Foyt to fight for the championship in a winner-take-all finale.
Mark Donohue announced his retirement from racing after the third IROC race in October 1973, this race at Daytona was supposed to be his last as a driver before taking the role as President of Team Penske.

They didn't show it during the broadcast, but David Pearson lost third gear in his car and twice skipped the infield section trying to catch up. "If I thought these things would float, I'd probably have cut across the lake. I was so far behind it was the only way I could catch up." 😅

it's bad seeing 2 guys that would pass away not long after this race, mark passed away a year after this race in 1975, as peter revson passing away a month later after this race, looking at both of them standing together, at 4:27 i don't think they were excepted to pass away sooner after this race, but at the same time, auto racing back than is a dangerous sport, and it's sad to see them go early

what was wrong with the shifts in these porches? AJ had problems, david had problems, george had problems, were there porches had problems in the past before IROC started?

this was years after Porsches success in endurance racing so I'd put it on the drivers rather than on the well proven transmissions

They were not the easiest shifting gearboxes. You were better off guiding the gear shift and matching revs rather than banging them around. They were not fragile but not rock crushers either.

These guys didn't shift gears except at the starts Never had a problem shifting these transmissions

I just don't believe every driver had the same horsepower and torque and transmission and tires as the winner

With those winnings in today's money I could buy a single wide trailer, and live in the trailer park for a whole year. We're talking some serious earnings folks. Granted your woman leaves you.... I mean, obviously, Terry has fireworks.
