I recently bought a 120 issues of Road & Track starting in 72 thru 82. This race is covered , and it was a report which excited the imagination. Seeing the same race here was better than I had imagined from reading that report! Then seeing Peter Revson and Mark Donohue made me sad because I have read my Road & Tracks in consecutive order from 72 and now I have Jan 76 in front of me. The NASCAR drivers drove with distinction, and my respect for their abilities has grown tremendously watching this. Thankyou for posting this.

I never went to an IROC race, but at one time or another I saw every one of those drivers race in some form of motorsports. Sadly, half of them are gone now.

These first three IROC races took place during the 1973 Riverside Can-Am weekend, held at the end of October. The Daytona finale followed in February 1974.

Before they ruined the IROC by turning it into an oval-only series. Also PORSCHE's! Way tougher (and more expensive) than Camaros. Great memories for me.

When I did Skip Barber racing at Lime Rock the rules were the racing line is anywhere between the guard rails.

I gotta give the old NASCAR drivers morw credit for putting on a good performance with the 911s.

Someone on my 2002/tii board was arguing with someone and just said 'Look fool a NASCAR driver will outdrive you in your own car.' End of story.

How about Mr. Casey Carey, Mr. Brian France and Mr. Tony George make a revival of this series? I can imagine: Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Martin Truex Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Josef Newgarden, Takuma Sato, Hélio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan, Sebastian Vettel all together! Mr. Carey, now you are the leader of the most important auto racing championship in the world. Make a try!

Hummm... How about, someone from the Weathertech SportsCar Championship and even maybe from the Formula E? More global as possible! And mixing ovals and road courses. For example: Daytona (road and oval), Talladega, Indianapolis (road and oval) Long Beach, Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Austin, Montreal... just to name a few possible tracks!!! What a series that will be!!!

I'd suggest having two oval and two road course races. These cars are essentially stock cars, racing them entirely at ovals (like IROC did from 1992 to 2005) would give NASCAR drivers the right to completely dominate everything.

So glad it exists but so sad the video quality is so lame. And you can tell there's not much you can do with it either. Just poor optics. Damn. If you could drive a vintage 911 at 9 or 10/10ths -- and bring it home -- you are a fucking HERO. Mark D is HERO.

Remember Donahue also drove Porsche 917-30 which dominated Can-Am and was outlawed to fast too race. Hero indeed.

The only way to do this right would Require X number of Champions across x number of Series The championship winning cars from each series. With each of the various drivers happened to drive each of the various cars in each of the various types of races.

@Yargk
@Yargk 3 года назад
@@terryduncan5718 Perhaps that was the case for that IROC year, but remember the quote "Thank god there's no 48-hour race anywhere in the world, because chances are nobody could beat Porsche in a 48 hour race. They're probably the only cars in the world that would stand up for something like that." - Carroll Shelby

What do you call a 911 that doesn't leak oil? Out of oil. JMF
@Edgy01
@Edgy01 3 года назад
That USED to be the rule. Porsche solved that largely in 1977 when they shifted from magnesium engine cases to aluminum in production cars. Today, there is no reason for a a Porsche to leak oil.

When I was rebuilding my mag case 2.7 at the shop where I worked, a customer told me that joke and I though it was hilarious. You can't own one of these things unless you can laugh about it sometimes. (Yes, the little pic is a '73. Someone swapped in the mid 70s 2.7L before I bought it.) JMF TAG

I remember this track when I was just chat coming up and I know why they did it but I wish they never would have took toward a track up they did it to make houses out there and they still calling Riverside California but they should have done at the Watkins Glen or some other track instead of that one I don't know how many more VHS videos you got and put them back on and put them up on RU-vid but I sure would like to know cuz I just said international race of champions and it pulled this one up and I can't understand for laughing me why I mean I know I'm not watching the same race twice but why would they have I noticed at the beginning of it this second race of the season I think I wouldn't you know what they call the season that's probably about the third one here because it's all day because it is a change when I changed over from poorest to do the trans am Minnie honeycomb IROC cars and I was a dream part of a trans am or a Thunderbird one I can't remember which now he's talking about some years ago this is this mirrors cuz this was done in 1974 and best of my calculations I was only 11 years old then there's nothing I'm bragging that I was 11 but I still remember seeing on TV I just couldn't remember and I'm glad you cut out all the other commercials and stuff like that to me whenever breaking away going somewhere else I'm glad you cut all that out cuz it would have took forever to get you know so how many leftover running back then which even though I rock international race champions David do that and I like this better even though I know it was done on VHS and then recorded over on RU-vid I like it I like it I like it good I'm glad you did it cuz that truck's no longer around I mean I know what they just done up there in North wilkesboro trying to run and track back but it's attractive is gone and it won't be brought back and I believe it was better than the other two room courses that they run on now and I'm going to be honest I don't like that roll boy in Charlotte at all that just don't make no sense to me I don't took the care for road racing but that was a track that I grew up 30 years with always going to Riverside it's Riverside Daytona Talladega Darlington and bristols are a must see if I don't I have a fit and a few of them in between there like Martinsville I like that track and when they quit racing at Rockingham that got me a little if you're too I know they're running up on a different point systems here but I will also say this I believe they're starting messing with the point system as much as they did because Jimmy Johnson won seven championships faster than Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty then and I don't let no one will break no one driver for Brett Richard Petty's record my lifetime or even for other I just don't see everything I just don't say it happened but he got the point system and a way to cars I'm doing now I just don't see it happening again they might be every record at Richard Petty's got but I don't think that that will ever be broken and if it is broken I won't live to see it not by one driver cuz I never get the children is a team owner has got more wins than Richard Petty but they wouldn't all done by one driver

Only one car retired. If anything, that says more about the driver than the car. Perhaps Petty pushed a bit too much for too little.
