One of the great but largely forgotten matches in World Cup history. Back and forth match. Great goals, great displays of fighting spirits and great goalkeeping on both sides. Ronnie Hellström was such a beast in this match.
Just watched this again for the first time in along time. Am American but was born and raised in Munchen . I was almost 14 when I watched this live(tv) and am amazed how much they play like the current version. I played hockey in the Olympic ice ring and met some of the players there when they brought their kids to go skating. And yes, I know it was the summer Olympics but they built an ice rink on the Olympic grounds, for public use. Vielen dank fuer das video. Thanks for video.
It was great to see Heinz Flohe. I remember him very well from his time in FC Köln. I did not know that he was part of the 1974 team. A great player & a great Captain.
@@gunternetzer9621 Thanks for your reply. as a follower of the fortunes of Liverpool, I remember him having a great game for Monchengladbach in the semi final of the European Cup in '78. He really was a live wire, but also very creative. We all know the role he played in setting up Gerd for the winner in '74. Football is the poorer for the loss of the great Gerd Muller. A man who re-defined the term, "reliability". It is of course 50 years now since your win in Euro '72 when he played such a big part, along with your good self. A extraordinary player, much appreciated and missed here in the United Kingdom. Wishing all of you in Germany a great World Cup. Let football be what we talk about.
Most world cup classic matches are not available because of the restrictions of FIFA . I have already download ed all the available matches on this wonderful channel .Why do not you set up a new channel on RU-vid to be able to download the summaries of these fantastic matches ? Make it paid . I am ready to pay
Wolfgang Overath was one of the greatest playmakers of all time, tells you a lot he was voted the best midfielder at the 1970 world cup when you had probably the greatest football team of all time playing, Brazil , but as usual because he was German his skills were always underrated by the world's press .
The formidable West Germany. Their style of play in this match never changed. Regardless of the score (being behind or ahead) they just attacked. A beautiful match.
Great highlights! Do you have(or do you know where I can find) other extended World Cup highlights like this? The FIFA and UEFA channels are crap and show barely 2 minutes per game.
The Germans had tough tough games. The games against Sweden and Poland were in heavy rain on a very muddy ground. Sweden was tough on defense with a great keeper. The Dutch had already failed to beat them. Poland beat Italy and was probably among the top three teams in the tournament. Yugoslavia won the group against Brazil.
Partidazo!
I saw that in the TV as a child .... there was some dispute with fans and the team before as the performence in the 1st group stage was miserable. Then they played in Düsseldorf and the Düsseldorf fans backed the team unconditionally.. Germany attacked, played well .... and suddenly 0:1 for Sweden ... and I will never forget my thoughts:"The fans may not booh, they must support them!" Some seconds, the whole stadium was quiet and then all the fans yelled: "Deutschland, Deutschland", get still goosebumps thinking of that. After the match the Munich Franz Beckenbauer stated that the Düsseldorf fans (and not tMunich) shpuld have been honored wioh the final.
I read in Gerd Muller diaries that he was initially surprised when he found out that Helmot Schon had named Herzog in his 22 men squad for the World Cup, but then he realized why Helmot Schon had decided to call Herzog: Herzog was from Stutgart (If my memory is right), and if W. Germany finished 2-nd in their first round group match, they had to play their next game in Stutgart, and Schon needed local people's support for the national team, thus he had decided to include a player from that city. That is what indeed happened and W.Germany after finishing 2-nd in their group, played their next game against Yugoslavia in Stutgart with Herzog in their line up for the 1-st time!!
