Oh Brother that is nice wholly cow he is built to the Max..i have a 87 E-350 camper with a 460 in it and its my pride and joy to baby that motor trans and exhaust (flowmonster muffler 3 inch pipe)...and its got a nice paint job on it .....but my point is its Dudes like you who inspire my work on my 460...keep up the good work..,.love the way that big boy sounds wow.
That truck sounds amazing… my dad had a 2 time green f100 ranger with the 390 big block and that thing was probably 5 miles per gallon maybe 10 on a good day……. I dunno I miss that old truck
I have 10.3-1 compression on a built 390ci that I put the Block-hugger Sanderson headers on with the 16 bolt Cobra Jet bolt pattern to match the Edelbrock Heads. Those headers are the best made ones that I have ever seen. I love them.
I have a 1975 Highboy with the 390. It currently has the stock exhaust manifolds. I want to switch to the Hedman headers or a custom set. How was the install on Hedman headers? What size exhaust are you running? I currently have glass packs with what looks like 2" to 2 1/2" exhaust.
cool truck...I hope those headers arent 3in pipe or you might lose a little power, With that type of compression a smaller size pipe is completely necessary. Also, i hope you get some time for bushings and a few other things i know your aware of. I got to much into mine and it all came on too fast those little details....if you dont like the reaction with those trak bars, they look nice and all but an anti sway works just as well, even up front just make ya some extensions ... i know you know to limit rev till cam is broke in....i didnt do that either and the spanking hurt
I've got a question on the frame since it's a highboy they have the 34 inch narrow frame and not the 37 inch standard frame of the time right and if so how was the install of those headers because I just pick up a 1793 f350 dually cab&chassis with the narrow 34 frame and looking to do headers also
You're right, our frames are 34" and it makes getting these headers installed a major pain. You will have to lift the motor a few inches out of the motor mounts to get the headers past the frame on installation. I installed mine before dropping the new motor in. You could try a set of shorty headers if you want to avoid the hassle. Congrats on the new truck!
thank you for the congrats and the info im going to be working on it very soon once i can get my garage cleared out from putting stuff in it for the winter, also you truck sounded good.
Another option is this: I bought ceramic-coated Sanderson '427 shorty' headers for my '69 highboy (video slideshow here on RU-vid). Pretty easy install. They hug the block, so frame clearance is very good, but I needed a 'mini starter' to make it all work.
I had the rear drive shaft disconnected in the video so the output shaft on the transfer case was spinning. The speedometer doesn't bounce like that now that everything is hooked up.
