What is a comfirmed "F26Y", that has F350 on the fenders, 2-1/4 wide rear springs looks like 7 with 2 later added, with a 10th helper spring with factory end perches, 4-1/4 inch spacers on rear axle, 28" to inside of frame rails, gas tank in cab,, divorced transfer case, 3" wide front leaf springs 5 count, factory a/c, 4spd granny low, 390, 1976, ranger on the bed, custom on the glovebox? I'm sorry to ask all this. I just don't know much & I appreciate the help.
@@davidbaldwin1591 last thing to check is frame width. Highboys had a narrower frame than other fseries trucks. If you have that terrible steering system woth all the hoses going to a Control valve off of the pitman arm, its a highboy.
You forgot the most visible sign of a "highboy". The crossmember, right under the front bumper lol. They also came in a crew cab short bed. The front frame width was 37 inches, the rear frame width was 34 inches. Badass truck buddy. Digging that color
I must say, I miss my '76 F250 High boy. First year for front disc brakes and open knuckle front axle HD44 axle, last year of the gas tank behind the seat, mine had factory A/C and R12 , but was still a custom with the NP435 4 spd granny and NP205 divorced TC. Dana 60 rear axle with LS and 30 spline axles. Had the original 360 bored out .030 over and completely rebuilt with an Edelbrock performer intake, 600 Holley 4 BBL, Crane Fireball cam, and worked well with 4.10 gears and 9.00-16 Gumbo Wide mudders. The biggest thing that made it stand out was the original Dark metallic green, I really liked that color. I used to wax it with Eagle 1 carnauba wax, it really made it shine. It did produce a little over 300 rear wheel HP on the dyno, it impressed me at the time.
Good tips and start. You're correct in your description, as I have had both a 72 F250 4x4 Highboy new, and now my 78 F250 4x4, since new. It starts just like yours, too. lol But always does start. Thanks.
Bought my 1972 f350 4x4" Brand New "and back then a "High boy" was a Factory 4in lift ! On the window sticker High Boy was there on it !! Everyone in my day knew wat a highboy was ,
Own a 73, 75& 77, plus a few other Fords! But I have to be truly honest and say I love my 04 excursion, also own a 79 F-250 Snow boss!, With the real Fruhauf Western plow
March of 77 is when the highboy ended. My dad and I ordered 77 f250’s in November of 76. .mine came in January, there was a mix up with my dads truck and it was delivered in March. His came with the wider 27” frame, high pinion 2 leaf spring front end. Integral power steering , married transfer case, tank in the back between the frame rails. My truck has the divorced transfer case, tank behind the seat, power assist power steering, 6 leaf front springs, 750-16 split rims tires and wheels.
Nice truck those were all ways the best year's for the F250s. Also you forgot to mention the front positive arch front leaf springs. 78 and 79 had negitave arch springs.
alot of great info. ill adda couple peices. no camper special option on a highboy disc brake 44 front in 76 and early 77 low pinion. 360 option ended in 76. all 77s were 351m or 400...
I remember picking up field stone in F250 on the farm Granny gear i could get out of the truck throw the stones in and get back in the truck it was slower than walking pace. Very nice Fords back then
I had the 76 F-250 4x4 picked it up for $500 years ago sold it to a friend for a few bucks more after doing a little work to it. Nice trucks but you have to be careful of the Frames with these trucks, right where the Cab meets the Bed, they have a tendency to Rot out. We used to weld a continuous piece of backhoe steel, about 1/4 inch thick right under the cab as far as you could get to fit under the bed, in most cases a few feet. Other than that, really fun truck to drive.
1975. F 150. 360 Automatic. Full time four wheel drive. Started when it wanted Left me walking about ten miles. But actually it Left me walking when ever it wanted. Yes I repaired and replaced just about everything. Even the engine. Never Again have i ever even thought of another found On Road Dead. I spent more time and money under the hood than behind the wheel.
Great trucks the hydraulic steering was not so great they would stick or turn for no reason. I've wanted to put a newer front end under one of these trucks but its not gonna line up well
@@4x4hondarancher I remember that thing looking like it had a lift on it. bim sure it was just stock, Great truck but id rather have ny old 67 bronco half cab back. I was a dumb kid in highschool and i didnt realize what i had at the time.
My first truck when I was 16 was a 77’ F-250 and the hubs on it were huge, with red in the middle of them, tank behind the seat, the back of the bed was spring like all of them in Maine, I owned that truck for 15 years, had a 351 in it, I used to bury that truck every weekend on the power lines, I had older friends, so I was an alcoholic by the time I was 17, but they used to love to use me as the Guinea pig to see if I could make through some abyss of a mud hole, Kellys mud runs in Pittston, boy if that truck could talk I woulda been in a lot of trouble, I had a 73 1 ton 2 wheel, a 75 F-100 with a 3 on the tree, that one would burn the tires for miles, had a 76’ 150 with a blueprinted Butler MacMaster 390 in it, and that thing had more Ftlbs then the 460, had a 79 150 all of them were sweet trucks, wish I kept the 77 tho, my buddy bought it from me then sold it, but he still has one of the doors from mine on his plow truck, gotta get another one day, they were the best looking trucks ever built, now I run a 19’ F-150 with a 5.0 10 speed nice truck, but I still love the old fuel air and spark.
I have a 69 Ford 100 and it's has the DANA SPICER high low tansfere with the 4 inch lift..Dana 60 rear end and Dana 45 front axle..has the high and low shifter..I think it is a " High boy, it also has a 390 Hi-PO with 427 heads...beast mode!
I had a 1972 F-250 Ranger 4x4. Had a 390 and manual transmission. Bought it outside Denver for $600 back in 2000. Great truck. No catalytic converter, dual tanks, tool boxes built in, etc. I had to put lead additive in it too. The WORST mileage I ever had with any vehicle I've ever owned! Also, the last vehicle I ever owned with manual steering and a manual choke.
I bought mine brand new in 76'. F 250 highboy XLT with factory 4" lift dual shocks all the way around with a rear gas tank. Has a 390 in it. I have since removed the engine and placed a 429 in it. Love the truck. It's my daily driver. Yes a gas guzzler. 10 mpg.
Who put the 390 in it? We put a 429 out of my Grandfathers old Station Wagon in our 77 and that engine is peppy as hell. I also had a 76 HighBoy back when I was in HighSchool that had a 390 out of an old Mercury. Makes no sense why Ford didn’t run 390’s in these trucks from the factory
she said we dont need no stinkin toyotas. just feed her the fuel. thay get dry when sitting with a good choking she fine.that truck was never afraid of winter. shes a good girl,,
samething here mine was used for farm duty then auctioned . i bought i fixed everything now very proud and very very happy all payed for wit no payments good feelin,,
Very clean truck for up there!! I never pumped a truck like that without flooding her.....but you did it without flooding so must know something I dont ha!
I like the color of that truck. My Grandpa had a 73 High Boy, straight six. I loved that truck as a child. His was this crazy some what fluorescent green yellow color. I have a hard time describing the color, I'll have to look into it and see what it was originally named.
@@4x4hondarancher Yes they do very much so.... I myself like the steel wheel look i think it gives it a tough look ( industrial look) better than any aluminum mag will ever do just my opinion and you can get them in 16's so your tire selection is back. I see a lot of people putting on modern mags on the old fords and the hub sticks out it just looks goofy too me
I'm starting to work on my '75 "highboy" which was my dad's brand new. He's past now and its mine. Originally has a 360, now running a 428. I'm thinking about getting a 7.3 godzilla engine.
how about you look into ford/mwm sprint 4.2tdi. fitted to s/duty 1998 - 07. in africa,aus,brazil,europe. you,never had them. 6 cyl german diesel. 510nm 140kw,std. i fitted a td06,now has 700nm,170kw. no computer,no glow plugs,all mechanical. cheap.12 lt 100ks. son,,torque is what you want,not 1000 hp..a 7.3 weighs howmuch,3 times the diesel. think about that..
The blocks are 4" in the center they're wedged for pinion angle. Divorced transfer case is to relieve drive shaft angle for the lift. Check your front diff clearance before you lower it.. the pumpkin was moved over in later axles!
I got one if you look on my channel it's something about "military tires suck in snow" but everyone said they liked the pump lol next time I'll do a cut scene for both inside and out
I had a 73 4x4 f250 long bed 4spd manual with np205 divorce mounted transfer case with Dana 44 and dana 60 rear with 36 1650 dick cepecks I got when my grandpa past away when I was 15 he custom ordered it with AC with manual brakes and no power steering lol I miss that truck
Ford actually referred to them as Hi-rise. I worked for a Ford dealership in those years and when going to the parts counter while working on 77 model year I would be asked if it was a hi-rise frame or not.
Im more of a MOPAR old school Dodge guy! The old Dodges & Ramchargers years 93 and under! But yeah new RAMS suck in my opinion! But I 🖤 the old FORD HIGHBOYS! 👍💯💪
alottt of pumping holy shit lol i pump mine 1/5th as much thats wild it seemed close to being flooded hard to say on video tho nice truck i have a similar one
You can start any standard without the clutch if you wire up the safety switch but yes these trucks didnt have a clutch safety switch... im not sure when that started id say 80s but thats a complete guess
I don't quite get your cold start with all the pedal action. I have a 78 with a 400.....very built....runs a edelbrock 4 barrel and the choke on that thing is a never fail deal, starts and runs perfect in all weather. My float bowls are with fuel for a few months after it has run, if longer I just let it crank a bit so the pump fills the bowls then hit the pedal once and the choke sets, bowls are full and its ignition time every time. I also have an advantage of a dual battery that runs in parallel, added it for the Hickey under bumper winch, it sure adds to the cranking power in real cold weather.
At a glance one for sure way to no a high boy is above the front bumper there is a cross member between grill and bumper and only the high boys have that cross member 67 to 77 - 1/2 also 78 79 dana 60 fits but good luck find one under $1000 and sometimes very rare can find 65 up half ton with a divorce T case and i had 70 half Ton 4 hi 2 hi only gear in T case
I own a 1977 F150 ranger 4x4 and I’m thinking about lifting it……why do you want to remove your lift kit? Depending on your answer I might not waste the money.
Ive exceeded my freedom height wise lol an its just generally wicked high to jump into or peek over the bed sides... i think i would use it more if it wasnt lifted plus it can fit 37s with no lift
Yeah you don’t need the whole checklist idea to know if the truck is a HighBoy truck, all that does is complicate a very simple thing. Any 4x4 F250 from ‘67 models to ‘77 models are ALL HighBoy trucks. All ‘77.5 model F250 4x4 trucks and newer are NoT HighBoys. .... Update, haha I wrote this comment soon after you started the vid and hadn’t watched your whole vid yet, that’s my bad.
