I’m so impressed by your ability to admit, in a video, your mistakes. You could edit it out but you don’t, you let us see it all. I felt really bad for you, almost as if I was embarrassed for you. I have great respect for an honest man.

Elin, thanks for explaining the good and the bad. It provides the chance to understand a mistake, and work through to the solution.

With regard to the timing error, you proved you are human, we all make similar mistakes. It kills me when I have to redo the work. Your videos are great

You did the right thing by walking away, relax, have a beer. It’ll still be there in the morning. Love your vids. Can’t wait for the next episode.

We're all human and it's not a question of if we're going to make mistakes but when. The real question for each of us is how we fix our mistakes. This is our true definition of who we are. I'm amazed a how short a time it took you to correct it. An amateur, like me, would have taken 5 times as long.

I usually don’t watch “will it start” videos but this is one of yours. We’ve all made mistakes with our “beauties” Elin, you show us everything, errors included. Thank you. That doesn’t explain your oil pressure not rising? 🎅

It great to see you owning your mistakes. I’m sure there are plenty of us out here who might have made the same mistake and would be scratching our heads wondering why it wasn’t working. It’s almost more instructive to see how it’s done wrong than right! 🙂

Best Part of your videos. Everybody makes mistakes and your willingness to share yours is what keeps me wrenching on my TR because I know I am not alone. Don't beat yourself up Tushmuch.

Great episode, it’s not like we all haven’t done something similar! And going through the timing again is a good refresher. Thanks

What a frustrating nightmare. I feel for you. And walking way then coming back to it next day I’d best thing. I’ve had that fitting OD gearbox in my 3a hours of messing about and in in the first 10mins the following day !! Good luck with the starting. the Chef will see you right.

It just shows even someone like you, who is experienced, can make such a mistake. This allows me to be easier on myself and revisit the steps in the process calmly. Thanks!

Worked at standard Triumph in the 60 70 80 what a long winded way to do the timing 🇬🇧🇬🇧
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 2 года назад
For me it is the only way to do the timing on these engines, especially with the aftermarket parts that come with no marks anymore. Like I say many times, my way might not be the only way or the best way or sometimes even the right way. It is just my way

Elin, did you get the oil pressure you wanted? I made a mistake like that as a young apprentice. After cleaning the block I forgot to replace the rear oil gallery drilling blanking plug before assembly. (Couldn’t get oil pressure at all and had to strip the block back down 😕)…
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 2 года назад
Yeah, the oil pressure gauge line was lose and leaking. After I tightened the fitting the pressure was way to high so I had to remove the washer that was added to the spring of the pressure relief valve and then things were normal

Does that oil filter gasket go into a groove on the engine side? If so, how about there is some crap in the groove that prevents it from sealing? Maybe even another gasket that has been in there for 30 years? I found a gasket like this on my TR4 when I was pretty sure there wasn't one.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 2 года назад
I made sure the groove was clean and not dented. I also removed a second gasket when I was taking apart the engine. No the problem was the gasket itself. I had the same problem with another engine after this one and I couldn't stop the leak until I changed the gasket (which came with the filter) with a very old one which came with the boxes of parts we got with the car. I compared the two gaskets and it turned out the old one (not used, just old) was a few thou wider profile. I am not really sure how the leak stopped on the engine from this video. I guess I just tightened it very slightly. But definitely the new gaskets are not very reliable and I am switching to spin on conversions from now onward. It still uses a gasket, but you do it once and forget about it. You don't have to worry every time you change the filter.
@JB_WI_Triumph
@JB_WI_Triumph 2 года назад
@@RustyBeauties Yeah, I used the original filter on my TR3 until I changed the oil the first time, took a shower, and then put on the conversion.

Hey Elin, mistakes happen as many times as required to learn. I have a feeling this wont happen again and thats good! I have a question though. Have you considered doing EV retrofits of these classic sports cars? I'm sure the market and rate for your work would increase by a lot if you add electric drive trains in the mix.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 2 года назад
Hey Ali, I have indeed, but that is not something that most of my followers approve. I did a kind of an interview of someone who converted their TR6 into electric. You should read the comments below that video :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GQ8rtSpf01o.html That wouldn't stop me of doing it anyway, but I have so many projects and ideas and there is only one of me LOL.

Elin, I had 6 ad breaks of two ads each for this video. That seems a bit excessive.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 2 года назад
I am sorry, ads are what bring a little bit of revenue for the time I invest in editing videos. I am trying to keep everything free for my viewers and get paid by RU-vid. It doesn't work very well for me by the way. That comes at the cost of clicking the skip button every once in a while for you and I appreciate it.
