You ain't lyin....it was a treat..not like now, where there are games 24/7 in every sport. Families gathered 'round the tube, eats, drinks and us kids BEGGING for a few more minutes on a school night 😃. Man I remember it like it was yesterday...and the opening promo getting you so hyped you feel like suiting up and running through a wall .😆
MNF was an event to see everyweek. Watched the games in my parents room cuz they had nice color tv lol. Only night i did not have to eat with family in dining room. The halftime highlights you waited all day Monday to see how your team did. Simpler times and i miss it🙂
Greatest era of the NFL. Of course, I'm biased, I'm from Pittsburgh. I am old enough to remember these great MNF games featuring the Mighty Steelers! How about the announcing, with Frank, Howard and Dan.
I remember watching this game at my grandparents house when I was 11 years old. The thing that sticks out to me is how far away the fans are from the field. The big outfield wall in the end zone is just strange compared to today's game.
Pops made sure I was a Steelers fan since birth in 82. Thanks for showing me some great Steelers games from before my time. Pops would've loved your channel. #HereWeGoSteelers
As a boy growing up in the 1970's, I knew I had "grown up" when my parents finally let me stay up past my bedtime on Monday nights to watch Monday Night Football, something I begged them to do season after season as a little kid who LOVED NFL football back then. "Remember when" might usually be over nostalgic rubbish by folks getting on in years, but in the case of MNF, I don't think (unless you lived through the ABC years of it) one realizes just how big these games were. Heck, it didn't even matter that much if the game itself was meaningful in the standings or if the teams were great, it was "Monday Night Football", and it was special for too many reasons to even try and name. As time churns on and on, certain things come upon us that like a comet through the sky, captivate us for a while, then slowly fade out until they no longer exist except in memory. Strangely, even though it was just a pro football game being announced by a combination of self-important braggadocious reporters and ex-jocks often hamming it up on Monday nights for a few months every year, Monday Night Football was just like a comet, and although its glorious time has past (yes I'm aware they still play on Monday nights, and it's like a copy of the Mona Lisa hanging on a motel room wall) , those of us who lived it during its heyday will always be thankful we experienced it.
It is so great to see how Clean ( non interfearing calls) this game is played. And the officials. KNOW THEIR JOB!!! Unlike todays confused and coursed bunch. Much better/ Quicker made calls.
Dandy Don Meredith , gree up in the 70 s and I remember him in those Lipton Ice Tea commercials. Being a Steeler fan my whole life its great watching my Steelers here on MNF, I watched this game with my Dad . Ahhh how I do miss the 70s.
Bob Trumpy as TE for the Bengals! This may have been one of his last years in the league. He went on to be an awesome color commentator on NBC Football broadcasts in the 1980's, he usually worked with Don Criqui
What a team! It don't matter if the steeler offense or defense is on the field, you have to hit the pause to count how many hall of famers are on the field. Chuck Noll was a genius!
Actually this was the night before Reggie’s 3 HR game, which was on Tuesday 10-18-77. ABC carried both games and would never have put them both on same night.
Watching Bob Trumpy at the end of the play at 10:33 get blasted in the head by Donnie Shell illustrates one of the many ways football has changed. Today, that's an automatic 15 yard penalty, and quite possibly an ejection, and easily a fineable offense that would be labeled as a "cheap shot". In 1977? It's just defense, not even getting a flag, and nobody on the field or in the announcing booth thinking one should be thrown.
Or after they beat the Steelers in week 13..all they had to do was beat a mediocre Houston Oilers team in week 14. But as the bengals did then and continues today..choked.
@@Biggdoom344 Choked in 3 Super Bowls. I was actually a friend of Sam Wyche. Can't believe they lost that game at the end and did not have an offensive TD in 60 minutes of football.
@@drbonesshow1 Sam was a good coach. The bengals did not choke under him. They were better than SF but they lost Wilson then Tim K. Still if Billups doesn’t drop that pick..they win. That was one of the stranger SBs.
@@Biggdoom344 If a team doesn't score an offensive TD in a Super Bowl they choked. However, don't worry as that '88-'89 Bengals team joins an ever-increasing group of chokers starting with: (1) 1972 Dolphins (2) 1973 Redskins (3) 1975 Vikings (4) 1989 Bengals (5) 2019 Rams and finally (6) 2021 Chiefs of should I say Chefs? See if I missed a team. BTW: the Super Bowl is where some teams decide to play their worst game of the year. What is super about that ?
@@drbonesshow1 How are the 72 Dolphins chokers ? That undefeated team captured the Lombardi trophy .Those George Allen WFT's never captured a road post season victory ,never won another post season contest after 72,they trailed by 7 late in this contest , so how was a road post season lost against a bud grant vikings team ,who'd advanced into 3 of the next 4 SB games a choke ?
Nickname. Here's the real name: Charles Lee "Boobie" Clark was a professional American football running back who played in the National Football League for eight seasons and was named the UPI AFL-AFC Rookie of the Year for 1973. Wikipedia
Google Steelers, steroids and profound misconception ,which objectively validate that the Pittsburgh wasn't a Steelers Steelers on a whole weren't a team inhabitant by a abundance of players who engaged in steroids usage ,they had a few offensive lineman who utilized steroids ,not entire offensive line ,and as a team amongst the few who least engaged the usage of steroids, which weren't illegal at this time frame .
The MNF announcers were like rockstars in the '70's. Fans huddled around their limo. Check out Frank Gifford's autobiography - he talks quite a bit about it - very good read. Thanks for providing!
always wondered what happened to the steelers in 1977...steelers were great in 74,75,76,78,and 79....same personnel same coaches why did they go 9-5 in 1977...cant fiqure it out...they played the broncos tough in 1977 divsional (it was 21-21 in 3rd quarter)...but what happened that year?
When MNF was special! The music, the announcers, when men were men, not crybabies! No Colin Kapernicks’ no woke nonsense just football. Men playing football, not the COLOR of MEN playing football!!!
I noticed in the credits that Andy Sidaris not Chet Forte was the director of this game.Forte was directing the World Series and had been in Los Angeles the day before and would be in New York the next night for Game 6. After leaving ABC Sports Sidaris would become a well known director of B-Movies.
Not being funny but is Bradshaw wearing a toupee? He was bald the year before in SB 10 when he walking off the field with his helmet off walking to the locker room after his concussion.
Thats really mind boggling to think the Steelers were only giving up 95 yards/ game passing🤣 Although they are no longer my fav team, I still enjoy watching these old clips from the 70's Like one of you guys eloquently pointed out, back when political agendas were not what the NFL is now! Peace
When Football was real.. Before the NFL JOINED THE WWE.. I wish it was like it used to be.... So tired of shitty refs, and people in New York calling the get..
