This is yet another gem uploaded by Tim McCartney 5 years ago on his previous RU-vid channel. I ran his recording through Topaz Video AI to enhance and clean it, and also doubled the framerate. Using Da Vinci Resolve, the color and contrast DRAMATICALLY came back to life.
At the time Tim recorded this, he had the Steeler radio broadcast hooked into his VCR for the audio, which synchs perfectly with the broadcast. Tim's recording ended in the 4th quarter, but I tacked on the rest of the game from a lesser-quality source (which I enhanced as best I could, but it's no comparison to Tim's recording). This second source has the actual NBC-TV audio.

Just a masterful job by you in your enhancing efforts. I have a bunch of old VHS Raider games that I need to do the same. Great job again by you 👍🏻 These are awesome! I’m no Steeler fan, in fact I despise the Steelers and that 70’s Steelers who kept my Raiders from winning multiple SBs. That being said, I can’t help but respect the Greatness of those 70s Steelers. That defense, that Qb, those RBs, those Wrs, Oline and coach Noll and that ugly Terrible annoying pee colored towel and awesome Steeler radio announcers. I can’t help but respect the role it played in NFL history.

Nice restoration work Dave! With all respect to Bill Troup, who didn't play that badly this game all things considered (facing PITT's defense + the conditions)...the Colts were a much different/more dangerous team whenever Bert Jones was healthy enough to play. The Baltimore defense also collapsed in '78 from 11th to 28th in points allowed.

This was a few years before I was born but I'm die hard Black and Gold all the way. Awesome to watch the old legends in action. One thing that always cracks me up about Three Rivers back in the day was the fact that cars would literally be parked in each end zone and you'd always see them in the background on touchdowns. LOL! Different vibe to the league these days. Big time.

I remember the game well. It was on a Saturday, likely a 12:30 start. Baltimore was a preaeason Super Bowl favorite. The Colts won three straight AFC East titles and lost a heartbreaker in the 1977 playoffs to Oakland in overtime. That game was John Madden's only road playoff win in the NFL. Bert Jones suffered a separated shoulder. John Dutton and Lydell Mitchell were traded away and it was the beginning of the end for the Colts. It was not just Irsay who wanted out of Memorial Stadium. Carroll Rosenbloom hated the stadium and considered moving the Colts before he and Irsay made the deal that made Rosenbloom the Rams' owner in 1971. Memorial Stadium was a dump. Lots of history but still a dump. The parking was terrible, bumper to bumper. The locker rooms were tiny and there was not enough space for both the Orioles and Colts' office staff. Orioles' owner Edward Bennett Williams hated the stadium and made noises about moving the Orioles to Washington. Maryland had a Blue Law that mandated any athletic event had to start at 2PM. The Colts could not start a home game at 1PM. The law was repealed on early 1984. After the Colts left for Indianapolis, Maryland passed legislation to build a new baseball park for the Orioles and a new football stadium for a new or relocated team. The fact that Art Modell moved his team to take the new stadium offer is a huge story that no one party has ever told in complete detail.

Wether in Baltimore or Indianapolis, Colts fans must REALLY hate the Steelers. We’ve owned that team for the longest time. But of course the Steelers went 14-2 in the first year of the 16 game format. Colts didn’t have a prayer of beating our team, virtually no one did. I think this ‘78 squad was the best unit to take the field of play in franchise history. But this video is visually excellent considering it’s 45 years old.

It's amazing that because of the advancement of the game and the physical advancement of the players that the best team in 1978 would be destroyed by the worst team in 2023. No contest. But the '78 players would be confused with the different rules. No kick-off, no pounding the QB, and all this prissy stuff today. Also, look at the class of these guys. They score a touchdown and act like that's normal for them. No crazy celebration. This was a different time. A different class of men.

Now, for my team of over 50 years...yeah, there were empty seats but every ticket was sold. Except for the strike year of 1987 and Covid in 2020, the Steelers have sold out since 1972. Keep in mind that there are always tickets set aside for fans of visiting teams and the Internet sites, unimaginable in the 1970s, make it possible for anyone to get a ticket. The 1978 Steelers were probably the best ever Steeler team. Considered to be on the decline after a 9-5 1977 record, Pittsburgh won in blowouts and close games alike. Until 1978, the Steelers has one win against Denver and never in Denver. They ended the season with a win in Denver, stopping Lonnie Perrin on the game's final play and then thrashed Denver, and then Houston in the AFC playoffs. The best Super Bowl to date ensued with a Steeler win. As for the comments about the "color commentator"...Myron Cope was a Pittsburgh institution. He was from the Squirrel Hill neighborhood and spoke with a thick Pittsburgh accent. He was a prolific journalist earlier in life. He was the sports anchor on WTAE TV for years, hosted a sports talk show on WTAE radio and was the Steelers color commentator for the better part of 30 years. He sounds grating to anyone not familiar with Pittsburgh sports. Cope invented the Terrible Towel and gave all royalties to a charity...he never made a dime from it.

for anyone who has coached or knows defense and formations, why don't more teams line up the way the steelers did pre-snap, putting 6 to 8 men on the line of scrimmage, seems to work really well and more than just this contest?

@@michaelleroy9281Don't blame Irsay as the stadium authorities and the owner of the Orioles blocked moves for a new stadium which a proposal for Camden Yards was knocked down... imagine that... poor attendance, disloyal fans, Catholic mass prevented TV deals for 1pm games cause they had to play 2pm games... right up to the eminent domain dirty deal by the mayor...all in the book, From Colts to Ravens by John Steadman

The Steelers were the better team but man the offucials were giving them calls throughout; starts with David Lee non call roughing the punter, 2 PIs that were incidental contact, not interference, what was the unsportsmanlike on the Nettles pic? This snow game could have been a major upset but, well you know, so
