Boy that's a sigh of relief, to finally see something I don't need........yet.

I ended up doing this today, took the instrument cluster out and the steering wheel and i removed the entire lock housing assembly,i enjoy working on my car so it wasn't a big deal and it gave me all kinds of room to work and inspect everything,i took the housing inside my shop and cleaned it out with paint thinner and got all that old gunk out of there, its amazing how light feeling that housing is,its made out of magnesium thats why, they must have had a reason because its been on my car for 28 years, its worn though. The main thing is that little brass wheel that goes inside with teeth actually matches teeth with the actuator rod,once you get it out, roll it on the new rod and you'll see what i mean, kinda like on the video at 2:02,as long as you have it centered and the teeth mesh to both end without jumping out you're golden, the shop manual says this also, last tooth with last tooth, another reason why i had to get the housing out was because the actuator rod was broken very badly in multiple places and it was wedged in there. While your in there check your big switch (1:19 on the video) this big boy sometimes needs replacing because it gets melted over the years, LMR carries a really good one and they also carry a repair harness for this switch since the wires sometimes get melted also,really really pay attention to this big switch,if it goes south you could have a really nice car fire and the least that can happen is some of your stuff like your turning signals or your fuel pump could quit working because of this switch, its the heart basically of the ignition system. One mire thing,like Landan says in the video,all these models can have variations,the 91 GT i worked on today did not have a snap ring,it had a little plastic retainer so you have to be careful when pulling it out and it only goes in one way, also the round brass retainer in the video (@ 2:00) was also not present in this car,it had a rectangular metal piece that you must turn 90 degrees to pull it out and it goes back the same way so beware and take your time.

@@latemodelrestoration where can I get the snap ring and the metal gear that goes inside the ignition cylinder so I can start my car. Or is there any way I can bypass that and start it! Please lmk I cannot figure it out. I bought the new ignition cylinder from you but it won’t engage or start when I put it in. My car came without one. There is not here inside the ignition cylinder so I suppose that’s why. Please where can I get one!!???

I got a question restomod. My key lock won’t stay in the ON position when I turn over the car, she runs but as soon as I let go of the key lock it automatically switches back into the off position and kills the car. Is this the way to fix that problem or do you believe it’s ignition switch box?

Ok but what does it actually do? Just spring your key from the crank position? I’m having a little trouble, 84 gt that won’t stay running unless you hold the key just before the crank position. If I release the key it shuts down. Tried new key cylinder, has a newer solenoid, ignition harness looks good and tight. Any ideas?

So I can turn it back a hair and it will stay running without holding the key. Is my spring worn out?

I would love if LMR came out with a kit to replace all of the skinny little plastic vacuum lines in a fox.

There's a silicone "kit" from hiperformancestore, basically just a few different sizes of silicone hose with a cutter. I used it on mine and it worked pretty good

Okay. I have mine all pulled apart and I'm ready to reassemble but I have one issue that I'm concerned with. The entire reason I had to do this was because my actuator rod broke. So when I pulled off the main switch, the broken parts of the rod simply fell out. So I was unable to mark the housing to line it back up. Is this going to be a big deal or can I just kinda eyeball it?
@latemodelrestoration
@latemodelrestoration 9 месяцев назад
Position it the same as you saw in the video. You may have to shift it forwards or backwards just a touch to seat the ignition cylinder. -Landan

@@latemodelrestorationokay, I got it all put back together and everything went just fine. I test drove it, took the key in and out, etc. Everything was fine. But then, when I tried to put the cover back on the column, something happened with the key lock mechanism. The key will not turn far enough back to release it. So the key is stuck. It's in the off position and will work to turn on and I can drive the car, but it just won't turn far enough back to release. I bought a new key cylinder and installed it but that didn't help at all. The key release button seems to work in that it still moves up and down. But it will not release the key. What on earth could I have done wrong while putting the column on to cause this and how can I fix it? Thanks for responding to my first question and thanks in advance for any advice you can give me on this new issue.

@@richardking9624 Can you remove the entire ignition cylinder? Also, did you watch our video for the ignition cylinder replacement procedure? If you haven't, I provided a link below. -Landan ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y-lEf6gOPHg.htmlsi=sxRQFFg_eYL0KpVj

@@latemodelrestoration yea, I removed the lock cylinder before I even started. I've pulled it out and reinstalled it several times now. I've pulled the key lock button bar completely out and it still will not release the key. I wonder if the actuator rod is up too far? It doesn't seem possible but I can't think of what else it could be. 🤦‍♂️
@richardking9624
@richardking9624 9 месяцев назад
Okay I figured it out. This entire debacle was because I was unable to mark the housing when the broken rod fell out. So that's all it was: the actuator rod was just too high in the housing and unable to move far enough back to remove the key. So I took it back apart and pried the rod down a few gear notches and...tadaaa! The reason I thought the rod was aligned at first was because my key came out the first time. I think that was just a flukey malfunction in the old key cylinder. I hope these comments can help others who may have the same issue.

@richardking9624
@richardking9624 9 месяцев назад
I know this is from a couple years ago and you probably figured it out. But for other folks with this issue: take two flathead screwdrivers and use one to pry the actuator housing away from the steering column and use the other to reach in and slide the pawl down and away from where it is locked in place. You'll be able to just slide it the rest of the way out.

Hey there, You will have to source the gear from a donor car or from a private seller that has an extra gear. We currently do not offer the gear separately on our site.
