Fresh from sunny California! my newest ride, a 1979 Dodge D200 Crew Cab. I had been looking for one of these for a long while and they just don't exist...
They are either exorbitantly priced or just in horrible shape needing everything. I lucked out and found this driver quality crew cab that will be my new go to work truck.
This is a short first look video showing the truck. A full length, more in-depth video will come in the future after I do some work on the truck. Stay Tuned!

In 1979 I was 19 and stationed in Alaska. I was in the Motor Pool and we had just received a one ton 4x4 crew cab that honestly looked like your truck. Well about the second week we had it we had a black ice problem that day and I was careful but I managed to 360 the truck about 4 times in front of the Front Gate of My Base. I was going slow and just tapped the brakes. Well afterwards when everyone stopped getting their panties in a dither I got my ass chewed out by my First Class standing right next to my Chief Petty Officer. After the chewing we sat down after work and had a few beers. Oh the good old days in a Mopar!! Great Videos Thank You 🙏

If you have a lot of deer around and you're going to drive it at night, keep the grille guard. Like someone mentioned, if to plan on hauling lumber or pipes keep the rack, at least keep it. You can always reinstall it. Nice truck-I wish I had it!😂

Another gem. This unit beats any new RAM. So how does a guy do a nationwide search for a particular vehicle?

Love it. Stock (repainted) wheels. As for the grill guard, I'd keep it in semi black. Somebody went to a little trouble on it 'cause he used that ol' Dodge and loved it...

I did think that if I kept it on I’d paint it black actually.

Just need to take a Brillo pad to those nice hubcaps and put them on a new set of tires on those factory rims and you'll be in good shape

Nice score! I agree, put a winch on the front and straighten & repaint the rear bumper. Remove the overhead rack. Do the wiper repairs and get the replacement wiper reservoir to replace the busted one. At some point straighten the left front fender and remove the left front door dent and then repaint.

Those racks come in really handy, i have one on my 1976 D100 and have used it for hauling long lumber, pipe and even corrugated steel culverts. Saves having to hook up and pull a trailer.

@@ObsoleteAutomotive I also scavenged some rear leaf springs and shackles of of a D200 crew cap like you have and put these on the 76 D100. I could haul an incredible amount of weight with the bigger springs. Rode rough unloaded, but this is a work truck.

@olikat8

Austin, if you replace the muffler or re-do the exhaust- here is a helpful hint. Look at "Different Trends" mufflers. 409 stainless steel, fully welded and available on CARID. The 2.5" pair I got for the Valiant were $38 apiece. An automotive engineer buddy turned me onto the brand and absolutely not disappointed
@ObsoleteAutomotive
@ObsoleteAutomotive Месяц назад
So CARID is legitimate? I’ve always been skeptical!
@olikat8
@olikat8 Месяц назад
@@ObsoleteAutomotive it is. You can find Different Trends at other outlets, too- the engineer at US Car Tools (in Graham, NC) got me the part numbers of what he wanted in order to build the exhaust on my Valiant. Sometime, if you're ever over this way, we can meet at the shop & Herb McCandless is nearby
@shaunclifton5281

How do you prevent rust from exploding on these old vehicles with 'patina' rust underneath since you are taking them out of their arid west environment. I bought a DeSoto fender from a CA desert salvage yard. The back side was thin paint and factory bare metal. In the 20 years in my not wet, but Midwest normal humid basement, the rust greatly grew. It liked being unprotected outside in the desert far more than protected in my not-arid basement.
@ObsoleteAutomotive
@ObsoleteAutomotive Месяц назад
Pretty much anything subjected to humidity and moisture out here will rust. Many of my desert cars start rusting. Just an unfortunate thing as the western feeds have baked thin paint or bare metal. You can only do preventative things like waxes and such but the only real true fix is repainting. Otherwise just make sure the cars don’t sit damp. Driving them lets them air out!

Congrats! Beautiful truck. If she were mine I would ditch the roof rack, fix what’s broken, pop the bondo out of the door, do my best to Paintless dent removal it, and hit it with some primer and whatever can of spray paint I could find that is closest and drive it. It would be a shame to paint the whole truck as she has a great look. If you oil and/or wax the finish, compound and polish before if you want, it would look great. I don’t even mind the wheels on her. 😂
@ObsoleteAutomotive

The wheels just don’t do it for me. Wrong look! Plus they are Chevy wheels and actually don’t fit properly. Looks like they forced them over them on as the center hole is smaller.

I think I would definitely get rid of those rims on with you with that they're ugly they don't belong on that vehicle they belong on a much newer one as you can tell also the ugly push bar in the front I would get rid of it? Like we used to say when I lived out in California send it to Long Beach that's where all the junk yards were LOL and definitely I would get rid of that ugly bedrock that looks like a mess but I really do like the truck my friend I think you got a good one there other than a few little like you said cosmetic thing take care I used to have a 71 Plymouth scamp plant 6 AC 2-door I miss that car so much I should have never sold it that was a big mistake selling my old Chrysler and then I sold it right before the prices went way up like an idiot I paid $200 for it from the original owner it only had 58,000 mi on it I drove it I drove a 10 years over a hundred thousand miles and then got a newer car and decided to sell it and that was a mistake I should have kept it it was a good car.
