In this episode, Aaron reviews the Rough Country lift kit specifically for Lowboy Dentsides, and then takes it for a quick spin around some back country roads.
I had the same truck 79 F250, I think I used the Rough Country kit or might of been another company as I lifted mine in the early 90’s. The front springs lifted the truck 4” and they gave blocks for the back that were like 2.5” so it leveled truck but it still had a slight rake to it. It came with the pitman arm. I ended up adding 3” body lift and ran 38” tires and I drove that truck everyday for years. It drove Just like it did stock, never had an issue with u joints or anything regarding lift. In my opinion the 771/2 to 79 F250 were the best trucks Ford ever made. The “low boys” were just better with the married transfer case and the power steering box that the later trucks used was a great system.

I put the 4 inch lift on my 78 F250 and didn't have to order anything extra. Mine wasn't equipped with a sway bar in the rear though. The factory brake lines worked. I used the factory blocks in the rear, but I got the full rear leaf replacement.

I am looking for rhe lart numbers for the sway bar end links if you still them around I bought the same kit after tour review , for my 79 f250 that i am tinkering on. The adjustable drag link and brake lines are pretty straight forward, but cant find the sway bar end links . Thank you
Question. Did your truck have any factory blocks in the rear before you installed the lift? Did you install the RC rear springs? Or do you have the factory rear springs and just added the 3” lift block? I’m installing the RC 4” lift with all new springs and my truck has 3” factory blocks in the rear, if I put the new springs on the factory lift block it is going to have a bunch of rake to it I would think. Just trying to figure out if the blocks stay or just put the new spring in and remove the blocks.
Hi Sir, you have to have blocks in the back for two reasons. The driveshaft won't fit without blocks and the pinion angle will be wrong. RC set this kit up for both and without it both will be incorrect. I tried it without blocks and nope didn't work.
Thanks for the reply back, I'll put the factory 3'' lift blocks back on it. The new springs are currently just sitting on the axle until I could find out if the factory blocks are needed. RC tech support couldn't tell me anything and I seen mixed answers on some forums. I don't mind a little rake on it I just figured the new springs on top of the blocks would make it have a big time rake. Again, thanks for the reply. I put the 3” stock OEM blocks back in and in the rear I’m measuring 43” to the top of the fender well and 40” in the front. So it should be bout right once everything settles. I’m going to have to do some grinding maybe on the rear shock mounts, the bottom part of my shock hits the axle and won’t let it pivot enough to get the top of the shock in the top mount. 🤷🏻♂️
@@dbfarm3145 Yea that is a common issue. Give it some time to settle and it should fit. Mine was very tight but it did work. When you drive the truck and put weight in the bed the pinion angle will only be going up giving the shock more room to move, so it should be fine. RC moves the axle forward with this kit which is why the angle there is more extreme than usual
That is correct, what is included in the RC kit are the springs and bushings, shocks (4), ubolts, and if you have a dana 44 they include the lift block for the steering arm. For a dana 60 setup, you need the skyjacker SDL-250. The kit calls for using the factory 4" lift block, I went with 3" blocks so I had to use smaller ubolts in the rear. It depends on your application how much of the kit you can use, but the main part here is the actual lift springs.
@@DentsideDepot I did thier 2 inch lift kit on my wife 2021 jeep renegade end result was what I wanted but replacing all that oem stuff for less than oem quality parts didn't leave feeling like an up grade just a lift that will allow to run taller tires and thats where and how you separate from every one else. I'm willing to bet it's top 5 most technically challenging kits someone can install
Terry that is a valid point, but in this instance I was replacing the actual springs. In my opinion, the rear bushings were factory quality replacement, the fronts were probably less than factory, but I could have pressed in Moog replacements etc. That is certainly something another builder could choose to do. Regardless, I am happy with the overall quality. I have no experience with Jeeps, so I can't comment on that end.@@terrytdriver
Well Sir that is top secret at the moment, but I will tell you this: I will only show the trucks on my channel that are worthy of being viewed, all the parts trucks will not be shown and I get rid of them fairly quick, usually within a few days. You can expect somewhere around 10 top trucks on this channel over the next year. Hopefully there will be an audience for them!
Certainly could have, but the comparable skyjacker kit is almost 3 times the cost, so I wanted to give this one a shot here. I have another truck with the Skyjacker kit and it is also very good.
@@barrynelson634 I have a skyjacker lifted truck as well, but the Skyjacker kit is almost triple the price. I was skeptical this kit couod deliver based on that, but it rides great.
@@DentsideDepot Good to know. I just tried finding 2" front springs for my '71 Highboy, Skyjacker was the only one that carried anything but shocks for a '71. But as you mentioned, they wanted over $1,100.00, with 4 shocks and rear helpers, for the mess. Way too much. I will probably end up putting an add a leaf in it, just wanted to level it out.
