For sale in our Chicago showroom is this stunning ’79 Ford LTD. The LTD was Fords full-size offering, but strict emissions regulations were forcing Fords hand into downsizing their lineup. In the effort to downsize, the “Panther” chassis was introduced. The panther serves as a Chassis for the LTDs successor, the Crown Victoria until its demise in 2011. 1979 saw the first year of the Panther on the redesigned LTD. This example is powered by a 351w and an automatic transmission. With a believed original 31,274 actual miles, the car drives as good as new, and looks it, too. A fresh exhaust system with glasspack resonators gives a strong rumble to the car, without any loud or raspy tone.
The paint looks as if Ford has just sprayed the final clear coat yesterday. All the factory pinstriping is in great shape and the glass is free of any cracks. The body shows no rust, and the wheels are in great shape. With only 2-doors and a big 5.8l V8, this is one solid power-cruiser. It floats down the road effortlessly, but still feels tight and responsive up to highway speeds. The beautiful red vinyl interior shows incredible, and it’s hard to believe they have ever been sat in.
Being a coupe, this is an uncommon enough car. Add in the optional 351w, and this is a fairly rare car indeed.
