A 1979 Pontiac Trans Am totaled by a tree? We had to check it out after we spotted it on FaceBook Marketplace and noticed it was 20 minutes away. The owner, Sean Casey, told his story about the terrible night that his beloved 1979 Trans Am was crushed by a tree.
Casey has owned the Pontiac for 30 years. He relocated the black iconic muscle car to his yard this year.
He doesn't know what he will do next with his 403 Olds-powered "Smokey and the Bandit” era dream car. The insurance is processing the paperwork. We hope it works out and he can repair or buy another Trans Am to hand down to the next generation in his family.

Absolutely heartbreaking!!! If I were you, I’d put the money into it and have it restored, if you can. It’s a cool car that’s apart of your family. It has history, another one will just be a replacement for that one.

I seen Smokey & the Bandit when it debuted back in 77 , I was 16 . When that TransAm drove out of the back of the trailer I fell in love instantly. I’ve owned a 77 Black TA with the 403 , no T tops . Then an 80 Turbo with the T tops . Lastly I found a 78 Martinique blue TA with only 20 thousand miles on it . It also had the fisher T tops and a black interior . Was an absolutely gorgeous T/A . I since sold it also and regret it . My condolences for your loss , talk about a terrible scenario.

This is so sad, would love to know what Insurance paid him. I had a terrible looking all original 80 T/A that was stolen 5 years ago, well I had full coverage and State Farm paid my $16,900 for the loss. I was shocked because it was not a special car and it was in terrible shape but it was a daily driver and ran incredible

Yea I'm curious also. I have a all original (for the time being) 79 10th anniversary edition trans-am, I'm scared to drive it anywhere that i would need to park and leave it outside😅. It's not in great condition paint and body wise, Interiors all there but seat upholstery is all bad. I've had it insured and registered for years now. But only liability, when I asked my insurance company for the full coverage for a classic vehicle, they asked me if it was in perfect condition..ofcourse I told then the truth, no. They told me they wouldn't even consider it then. They said we usally send our guy out to inspect classic vehicles before they will give them full coverage and if anythings already damaged, paint, body Interior wise, they wont cover them. Man if I could get me full coverage and it was covered for 16-17k I wouldnt be scared to drive mine anywhere😃 Mine even is a kinda special car.

We had renter insurance and they paid $16,700.00 and totaled it. I bought it back for $2000 and bought another TA.

Sad part about old cars years back we use to travel back roads of va,ky,tn,nc,sc, Georgia few times a year, you be surprised how many 1955 to 1975 old cars and trucks are setting rusting away ..even back then some was to far gone but every person " its not for sale, Gonna fix it up one day" few years later there it is setting in the same place but with more rust ..some actual look good , under trees , csr ports, few we saw in barns with chickens poo all over them, good shape though.. But no sale ..

It's a shame that it happened to anyone, but at least it's not a 400/4 speed car. It's got the wrong hood scoop decals (a common error after repainting as the decal companies include the T/A 6.6 decal and make you buy the 6.6 LITRE one. Most don't know or care when buying the kit) as a 1979 Trans Am with an automatic transmission (in this case a 403 Oldsmobile engine) should not have "T/A 6.6" on the scoop, it should have "6.6 LITRE" on it. But it's still sad to see it happen. It can be fixed with the right person and with some effort.

I am still sick about selling my 79 22 yrs. ago that if I came into possession of this car I would fix it because I can no longer afford to have what I once had. From what I could see it's fixable.

To many memories.. Id have it fixed ..won't be original so I'd search for a good 455 and slightly build it , heads and cam and put in it.or even a older 400 .

What would I do? 1....The next classic car I bought would have full coverage insurance on it. 2... It wouldn't be sitting outside. As for this car, buy a recipient car in good shape and start swapping over parts to build another one. I can bet the underneath is also bent- the unibody frame rails. You would have to cut the entire back off and adjoin another car to it essentially.

Id buy. ANOTHER BODY SHELL AND TRANSFER SLL THE PARTS ETC RATHER THAN SCRAP THE TRANS AM WONT BE EXACT CAR BUT HEY YOU HAVE ANOTHER Trans AM .

Fix it . Cut it off at the door corner and put a whole back end. You can do it. Plenty of repro parts.

I don't see anything there that's a showstopper. In a twist it's the driver's side rear quarter that has to be replaced.

Very very sad to see this! Unfortunately i bet the unibody frame is bent and wont be salvageable. Find a donar car and build off that .

I have a car that will fix that. Tree fell on mine and I'm taking the roof. Driver quarter is good and trunk. sections are good. I'm in Ohio. Cheap for the cause of course

@@JunkyardlifeI'd like to help this guy out. My shop in SC specializes in trans ams and car restoration. Currently working on a 70 Mach 1 Mustang that's only getting part of the firewall, rockers and inner structure reused. New floors, frame rails front and rear, quarters, roof skin, trunk filler, trunk floor, wheelhouses, tail panel, dash panel, etc. I have the technology, I'll have to see if the spare roof skins have the same t tops.

Please don't part out this one. Repairable and 10x easier to fix this than try to save a rusted crapper of a ta. Sadly its going to be a scumbag re-seller that will patch it up very fast & flip it for full value and ripoff some old guy.

Good catch! I’ve got the “real” 6-inch sail panel bird decals put away in a drawer. Smaller ones looked better to me, so I put them on my not real SE after it was painted 20 years ago. Still a conversation starter anytime I pull into a gas station. 😆
