I have a Spitfire IV that I rebuilt from a heap of rust. I now have a perfectly reliable daily driver. A few tips: 1. Remake all electrical connections. This will take a day or so but sidesteps so many potential problems. 2. Fit electronic ignition and avoid all of the problems of the old points based ignition system. 3. Fit a bigger radiator and fix potential cooling problems. 4. Take the time to understand how SU carbs work. They are very easy to set up and maintain once you get the picture of how they work.

They don’t realize they can pull the tunnel out? From the interior? I have pulled a trans and replaced a clutch in 3 hours.

It’s all about the TV show, but I agree 3 hours and you barely get dirty

They should have read the Haynes Manual before working on it. They could have done much more in a shorter time. BUT, they did a great job for her.

Uh... pull the trans out from inside the car. No need to pull engine. Very easy did it myself first time with no help. This is silly.

It took me like 30 minutes to pull the trans out of my 47 1500. It was a lot easier than most of what I'm used to working on.

"Those little iron motors you can beat on those things forever and they just won't die" for any 1500 owner out there we all know that's the biggest load of bs. 🤣 I wish they were.

Can't believe this. You guys got absolutely no idaea what you are doing. Get yourself a Hayne's Manual and you will find out the clutch-changing job can be done in less than an hour. I finished it in 45 minutes. Just listening to your words really hurts. These cars are so smart designed and easy to keep in shape. They deserve people with respect. Why don't you just simply keep your hands off things you don't understand?

Not being American that motor produces almost as much top end as a much larger American engine and the car can go round corners I'd put it against many much larger engined American cars of the day in an actual race. Not a drag race or a giant loop with no real corners
