As a longtime Ram fan, this is great to see. These were the Rams I grew up watching. The defense was stifling this game but to think we had McCutcheon, Tyler, and Bryant all in the backfield was pretty cool. I think Vin Scully could call paint drying and it would be exciting.
After watching the Bears manage just 47 total yards against the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday (9/26/2021), I looked up what the fewest total offensive yards in game was and found out it was this game. I came to RU-vid and found the game and just finished watching it. That was a complete domination by the Rams defense. The Seahawks offensive line had no chance. All things considered, Seattle’s defense played quite well considering they were on the field for nearly the entire day. This is a great upload and what makes this so historic is it really came out of nowhere as the Seahawks were not a bad offensive football team in 1979 but on this day they were on the wrong end of a complete mismatch and were powerless to stop it
Your comment is very cool! I was watching the Seahawks @ 49ers game last sunday, and in the first half the whole team was really struggling. To the point where the Seahawks would hold at some point a -8 yards of total offense. And it instantly made me think of this 1979 game! The team got better in the second half, but that's just how bad the first half was!
The 1979 Rams were one of the best 9-7 teams in NFL history. They had some great talent on both sides of the ball, and they wound up playing in the Super Bowl that year.
To put some perspective on Seattle's -7 yards of offense: The 2 games prior to this, they won a MNF game at Atlanta that had a legendary fake FG and they also a shocking 34-14 beatdown on the Luv Ya Blue Oilers. Seattle’s next six games after this: 29 points at Cleveland, 38 points vs. New Orleans, 30 points vs. the Jets in their first Monday Night home game, 21 points at Kansas City, 28 points vs. Denver, 29 points vs. Oakland. 9 games played. 7 times they cleared 28 points. 8 times they scored 20+ points.... and go figure this game -7 yards. They beat a bunch of teams that had .500 or better records, yet did nothing on offense this day
One of the strangest NFL games I ever saw. I remember watching on TV stunned with the results.. I attended 6 Rams games that year, This was not the norm... well
My Mom was at this game and still to this day talks about it as it was that bad for the Seahawks. Only good thing on my end was that I wasn't there to see it. That said, I wasn't even born yet!
This game turn the L.A Rams season!!! Losing badly in 2 of their 3 loses in a row! They would win 5 out 7 to close the season! It was Interconference play that won it for the Rams! 2&@ to N.O Saints 0&4!!!
The Seahawks have a long history of being the team where future HOF players finish out their career, usually ineffectively. Carl Eller, Franco Harris, John Randle, Jerry Rice, Devin Hester...
