Blast from the past! I was a tenor drummer in AUR (the only female at the time). My (future) husband was also there (bagpipes). If memory serves, this was the dress rehearsal.
Thanks for posting this. Can't believe the co-incidence its been posted so recently. I was in the Pipes and Drums and in this performance that year. I accidentally came across it when trying to remind myself of some of the Pipe tunes we played back in the old days. This brings back so many good memories.
There were many complaints about this!..A couple were justified, the rest were rubbish!..The sound recording clearly was very poor quality back then, Army did not have the equipment to do it properly, that they made it listenble at all was quite an achievement! 2nd..The lighting was terrible!..People who were there complained that they could'nt see what was happening!..You can see what they were going off about..Much of it happened in the dark!..Whoever planned that, should have his backside kicked until his nose bleeds!..As to the rest of it..Well planned and carried out with precision!..But, it seems, some people within 'Govt' thought ot too expensive to continue with it..And so after a few of these, they canned it!
The 1980s were certainly a bit different to today. No one would dare spend money on events. let alone the Vic Government. Everything was done on a shoestring. That's history!
