That roadster caught my eye right off the hop. Now that is a fine piece of engineering

Lawrence - one of the most straight forward commentary on a car re-com Ive ever heard - total honesty & considering I came to this video because Ive just found a 1980 928 auto that hasn't run for 30 years - for some advice ........ I already knew the risks as have done a few before like you & also know HORROR stories beyond horror... Well done - thank you - I will still try to buy but already know its not worth getting involved & will just pass it on to another ..... Crossing Fingers.... shame you are not based in London _paul

I love the 928, but I was scared of maintenance costs so went for a 968. That is very affordable to maintain and a lovely car. But the 928 would be one I'd love if I could have a perfect one.

Great video and specific information about the costs of repairs necessary in such old cars, the car must be driven and not left in a barn, you probably have Polish or Eastern roots, best regards, beautiful Porsche

Ukrainian roots, thankfully 100 years ago.. thanks for your comments. The car will get driven, at least when Spring comes!

Thank-you for the overview. I am looking for a 78-79 928, but seeing what you have gone through, I don't know if I'm that dedicated. Being a fellow Canadian this is an eye opener. I'll keep educating myself so I can make an informed decision. I think the most important aspect will be finding a car with the best interior possible. Enjoyed the video and subscribed.

What a wealth of knowledge. I’m somewhat nervous in my upcoming purchase of an 86 928 in pristine condition with just 30K miles. I thought that I would only have to deal with the timing belt and water pump but now…. A very interesting video. Thanks

My 944 turbo needed about 12,000 to back on the road. Car had 44,000 miles.

hydraulic belt tensioner was your failure point, I would recommision that before putting the belt back on.

The leather dashes were usually options, if you don't take care of it etc, is the usual shrinking and cracking, just some good leather conditioner / protection, thought maybe the seat padding needs to be replaced. She's a beauty though, looked at a few S4's and a GT but can't can't really compete with someone wanting a 91 GT on the side with 2 early 930 Turbos. Still wonder why the throttle peddles are so heavy, I can understand the steering since at Autochan speeds you don't want to "jerk" the wheel too suddenly.

From what I read Porsche stopped offering the full leather trim (dash) in the mid-80's after problems with the leather shrinking - at least on North America. Not 100% sure but it looks like the 85 928S may have been the last version to have the full leather dash.

@@slrroman they did have it in later years, but knowing some with the astronomical price tag with these cars didn't get it. I think Bob Sagat had a later S4 with the full leather interior

But how much did the car cost to buy?

Cars are meant to be ran and driven and if they sit it don't matter the low miles because most of the time the engine will need to come out and be rebuilt. Many low miles car that don't run much will spin a bearing on it's first drive just from being dry for so long and it leaves a sticky tarnish that will usually grab and spin a bearing that is why it's good to drive them even around the block every year is better then not ran at all and the fuel tank you gotta leave them completely empty because if you leave them with a half or quarter tank it will rust and tarnish the tank and sending unit and today's fuel with the menthol is the worst on a carburetor or injectors and fuel pumps and everything will need rebuilt or total replacement of the fuel system.

It wasn't easy... Lots of head scratching and failed attempts.. Then, car on the lift, one guy in the car holding the linkage in place from inside, another guy on the ground with a strap around the end of the linkage, literally hanging from it, then a big 'pop' and its on.
