When the race first debuted in 1979, the nine-car field was comprised of just pole winners from the previous season plus a wildcard driver. Over the years, pole recipients remained a common theme, but eligibility requirements progressively evolved. At one time or another, eligibility into the Clash has also included playoff drivers, former Clash winners, previous Daytona 500 pole winners and the top 25 drivers in points from the season prior, among others. This variance has allowed Clash field sizes to be as few as seven (1981) and as high as 28 (2009). And no, there were no spotters in 81, that didn’t happen until the mid-90’s
It would be cool if you did a race with this era NASCAR cars on the Riverside road course. Not sure if anyone has a track map of it for this game though. That was an intense track!
I used to really enjoy racing Daytona in NR2003 without restrictor plates. Could run laps with the 03 cars around 214 which I felt was fairly accurate. Another fun thing was to reset pit road speed limit to 200+, making it like it was pre-1990.
Love these videos. The Busch Clash was always held at Daytona where the first official race of the season would be days later. NASCAR moved this race to California in 2022, idiotic. Another reason I don't watch NASCAR anymore. THIS IS MY RACING FIX THESE DAYS. Thanks for posting these videos.
@@GPLaps Is there no preview of the tickers? Seems you kind of have to guess. Wasn't hard to pick my TNN Retro one, but it cuts off the speedometer on the right. I wish it filled the ultra wide screen also. More playing with it tonight I suppose.
@@GPLaps Oh and by the way, I am still really p***ed at you for firmly kicking me down the NR2003 rabbit hole. I had done the AeroWars mod back in the day, but the Cup 90 mod is something else. I watched your NHIS BGN 90 race and downloaded the mod the next day. I hadn't played NR2003 in over a decade till then. 1992 Transam in the ASA90 mod is pretty sweet too.
Please could you bring back your Grand Prix legends series from 1965-1969. It was so sad to see it go and suddenly stopped. I enjoyed the races and it brought to me a sense of enjoyment that not many other series' brought me. It was a promising series and there are still a number of tracks that were yet to be driven such as montjuich park, jarama and even the non championship events at tracks like oulton park. The cars with the ridiculously high wings such as the 1969 brabham are also yet to be seen. It would be amazing to see such a wonderful series come back.
So, you are going to do a full real 500! I always wondered what would happen to your right foot and heel after that long of holding it in place and feathering the throttle..!? I thought I heard that today's NASCAR Pilot's have special "water-cooled" boots..? Yes No!
@@GPLaps what physics do does the carset run? I have this carset in cts- but my areo is the newer cup version, I cant find the old cts version of areo88 to download. I hear you can swap the physics so i guess thats an option.
