This week we take a ride in Englishman John Holland’s Sandglow colored 1981 Range Rover through the rural lush greenery just outside of Worcestershire.
John took a liking to the old British off-roaders after getting to know a local retired military officer. The service member regularly drove grand excursions in his Range Rovers, which left an impression of adventure on John.
Inspired by the colonel, John couldn’t turn down the chance to acquire the gentleman’s Range Rover when the opportunity arose. “Once I'd driven it and used it, even though it ate petrol, it just consumed petrol, it was so much fun to drive.”
Hooked on the driving manner, John blames his Landy love affair on the veteran service member. “I owe a lot to that guy because he was the inspiration for owning a Range Rover-for wanting to drive a Range Rover.” Smitten with his handsome stable chariot, John reflects on the truck’s finish.
“I tell ya, it's a curious color,” John notes on the pale mustard hue. “It's definitely one thing, it's a color that seems to grow on people.” A tone derived from the Camel Trophy entrants, there’s a unique way the Sandglow paint works over the simple two-box designed classic-a perfect pairing on this motorcar.
The magic in the machine’s honest, utilitarian shape and character has kept John committed in driving Range Rovers, in spite of their temperamental tendencies. “There are some times that car can be an absolute pain in the neck, but you've got to just balance that out with the pleasure it gives in terms of driving it, owning it, and enjoying it. So, that's why I'm going to keep driving a Range Rover, an old Range Rover.”

This gentleman is so directly on point it ridiculous. What a treat this video is. The camera angles, the contrasts in color and just mesmerizing. Sandglow rolling through green grass is a thing! I agree 100% that vehicles used to be designed for how they looked and how they made you feel driving them. This is your best one yet. I've loved the old Range Rovers but this prospective makes it necessary to own one someday. Just awesomeness, thank you!

I had one, white with a black vinyl top. It was juicy around town but on a long easy drive wasn't too bad on fuel at all. I liked the starting handle, but it could brake your arm. It had a full length sun roof too and little rust. We had some great times in it. I loved it but it had to go as my wife wanted to learn to drive and I couldn't aford two cars back then. I wish I still had it.

beautiful presentation and machine. right on point with everything. electronics have taken away the feeling of actually driving and feeling connected to the machine. regulations, safety and the evident lack of today’s taste in design has dulled the pleasure of looking at something that can be beautiful. there is not a modern car today that i am attracted to. let’s not forget Toyota Fj40 Land Rover 88 Land Rover 90 Jeep Willis

What a film. I love when its late, im sitting in my bed and i just dive into the story. This is the best channel that shows the story, philosophy and emotions that stands behind every car. Im really deep into your stuff. Its really nice to see British countryside, its giving me nice feeling. Very good shots, and that one with drone gave me goosebumps.

This must be the best explanation I have ever heard about why we would "suffer" owning a Classic, I have had 4 over the years and am just about to purchase a restored 1994 Vogue SE. If you come out your house with a cup of tea just to look at her, you know its a love affair

what better place to do a classic range rover film than in its ancestral homeland. quintessential British motoring at its finest. and a big thank you to range rover for now restoring/rebuilding these models at the factory again. despite the price tag, its I'm sure worth every penny.

Aha! so far the best sound I heard of the good old Range Rover! My Dad had one and I drove a couple of them in the early 80s in real off road terrain besides highway - exactly for what they were designed for... Even though we were teenagers who drove fast (specially when there is no law) the Range Rover had a soothing effect on us, loved the low end torque of the small V8 - occasionally pushed it to 160 kmh on an uphill highway just to explore that limit - mind you, we also had a Wagoneer with a 5.6L -though automatic, great for highways and ok for occasional off road, unlike the FJ40s great off roads but better have good kidneys and back for the real off roads, the Range was the ultimate both world vehicle: deep jungle or modern city. I hear you on the frustration of maintaining them, but that is why we also have a modern car... Thank you for sharing and specially the personal relationship you have with the car!

True. Do we love them in spite of it because of what it makes us feel about ourselves, that reliability and thrift are not that essential to us, and that capability, style, and heritage are? I’ve had two Discovery 1s and I just enjoy seeing it in my carport.

I spent two years thrashing a 78 RR through the deserts of Oman. Serviced it regularly and it was superb. Why did I sell it????? But I have the next best thing, a Discovery 1. A diesel is cheaper these days. I used to moan in Oman that it cost about £10 for a tank of petrol!
