Other thoughts- Bailey was so smooth. Glover was tenacious. Hannah was fast. Mostly I’m impressed with the design of the tracks in ‘those’ days. Todays tracks are cool, but they are designed for airtime and pretty much everybody takes the same lines. Not much room for creativity. These tracks were brutal, and NOT “rider friendly.” Also- The sights and sounds of factory two-strokes never gets old. Two-stroke engines are the perfect design for racing! “Half the parts, twice the power,” I like to say. This was my era. God I miss it. We miss you Magoo. We love you David. And Donnie. And Doug Henry. And Ernesto. And Jimmy Button. And those other warriors that I failed to mention, who sacrificed for the sport, a sacrifice more valuable than any of us can ever imagine. Thanks for posting, even though im a decade late!

i hear ya about the tracks, but the bikes have gotten so fast that if you made a track that was much more challenging for today's bikes, you might run into a period where there'd be guys getting seriously injured (or even worse) every race. Personally, I'm about bringing back two strokes and dumping the start devices. But, that'll never happen. In fact, with electric bikes on the horizon, it's probably gonna get even more cookie-cutter. A 125 smoker class will have 3 guys who can pull off the big obstacles....with an electric bike, you can pull an intermediate rider off a local course and they could do it. I see it at my local track with the 450s....90% of the riders can huck the big stuff, but they go through corners like they belong on a Stacyc.

This is what made me a dirtbike rider, actually the late 70's but this was right in my early teens. My first bike was a 1973 mx80, then a 79 xr 80, a 74 mx360, 81 ktm 250, 82 yz250, and so on and so on. I still have a bunch of old yz's and rode my 83 yz250 this past weekend on a nice trail ride....................love these days of motocross.

I was at that race. Glover was my hero. Had all the same gear as him. Almost went full factory ride till I went over the bars on a double that I watched all the bike boys hit. Thought I could do it on my 80. Ended up in the Hospitol for 3 1/2 months. Broken back, lacerated liver, ruptured spleen, 2 broken shoulders, punctured lung, and broke all but 1 rib. Needless to say my pro days were over. Back on a bike though after over 30 years. Now I ride a YZ450F and love every minute of it.

OK, you crashed out on a 80cc bike. Sorry about that too, but what makes you think you were to be a big bore pro? Your pro days were never over, because they never started. Sorry for reality. I know it hurts sometimes, but it is needed if you want to ,.ive in it.

i went to MMI in Orlando for 8 months in 98'. Certified!!. Absolutely loved the training, super strict, no jackaloping around. they had zero tolerance for any schenanagans. took 2 full loose leaf notebooks of notes. 2 stroke porting and dyno was the most rewarding. been to many a supercross/motocross in my day

What happened to that dirt? It looks like Midwestern loam. Today the dirt is like concrete. Racing was so raw back then. Even the broadcasters seemed shocked and amazed at the action. This is what made me ride and love moto. Pure joy.

So now four stroke 250s are like two stroke 125s. Four stroke 450s are basically like two-stroke 250s, and there really is no true open class anymore. 450 two strokes do not compare favorably in peak horsepower to many 500 two strokes from the '80s....and motocross bikes cost $10,000 or more? You could buy a race ready YZ125 in 1982 for $1,000. WTF? This sport used to be accessible to anyone who had the desire, now it's just another rich man's sport, like skiing is now. The world is going to hell in a handbasket...

Is this boo boys channel because he was the first to incorporate the hallway or over and underway section in Supercross! Plus was the owner of a club in Springfield, Louisiana called Bobalous Bar who’s brother named or nickname was Bird who is a great friend/uncle boo boy his older brother and my racing # is 76 which is ironic if this is or not his channel.

I love the old riding gear designs (like Glover's). I'll speculate that if one of the apparel manufacturers today made a line of that old style (reflecting the bike brand), with basic colors, there might be a huge market. Not a fan of the clown suits that advertises the clothing manufacturer today.

Those factory bikes would cost that because of the modifications they did to them ! Much different for the bikes we would buy from the dealers that looked similar . All of those factory race bikes either get kept by the racer or they become museum bikes once the bikes become obsolete & are far too valuable as history to be left to rot in fields lol .

Nope to dope. The guys who won, were real hero's. The rest just tried as naturally possible. The 90's was a party phase, but they got beat by Stanton, McGrath and others who really wanted to win.
