This was a clip shown originally in November of 1983 featuring Billy Idol and his move to New York. He talks about the differences between England and the US.
He seems quite authentic and free in what he does. As many said before, he is also intelligent and very well- spoken. And very relaxed at that. There should be more guys like him in the music business.
He's gorgeous then and gorgeous now. He's very intelligent and obviously must have great self control in having kept himself in his 60s so alive and well and looking great.
@@VINvIN344 "Crinkly grandfather"?? the guy is still HOT🔥 ! He's got all his hair and NO beer gut! (kind of wondering what YOU'LL look like in your late 60's???😗)
@@VINvIN344 Like gigigiseleworld said, there are ONLY 2 options for the future, you can get older, or you can DIE! Billy at age 68, is STILL "Keith Richards" like good-looking! And, there are a LOT of women around Billy's age that would LOVE to have him! (But, sadly, for women there comes a point when they are suddenly "too old" for men who are the same age, "their age" then becomes 10-20 years OLDER!).
🌠🙂🖖 ... and 40 years later Billy is still a dynamic, bit older spirit writing great new songs enjoying himsrlf entertaining people live on stage while being '... a pilot' 9:00 👨🏼✈️ 🛫 in music ♥️
Billy is one of a kind. Rebel with a huge heart. Beautiful face and beautiful spirit. He followed his dream. Never ordinary Billy. You still bring so much joy to so many. Astute with a mission. I love music. Billy Idol you are a legend. Humour always. So important. Keep rocking. Youre a down to earth guy in a crazy world. To all the fans. 👌💯Bubblegum factory. Still time for that. 🙂❤❤🌸
"You can get soft and easy when you're used to any kind of system you're in, so it's kind of great to break away from it." That was quite profound at 4:00 minutes in. I can identify with what Billy said there ... many people choose at that point to make easy living, and while there's nothing significantly wrong with that, you know - putting food on the table and paying bills, there is something inherently wrong with it - like you trade authenticity for security, or exchange pain for pleasure, because you risk nothing, so you become nothing, or not much - in the creative sense. The more I hear this guy (only recently) the more I realise he actually has something to say, like something worth hearing. He keeps up with th interviewer and is in control the whole time - why - because he don't gotta makes stuff up - it's what he has inside that enables him to deliver.
both were influenced by the underground goth movement at the time... Billy Idol definitely was there first though, as his early experiences in England predated any exposure Madonna could have had with such things in NYC. By the time Danceteria was around, the look was everywhere in the underground, though.
Madonna's first look wasn't even her idea. A designer named Maripol created her entire look. Billy certainly was inspired by the punk movement, but his look was all his.
He comes off as a very smart guy!!!!" And knew exactly 💯 what he was wanting to do in the music industry!!!!!? He was just saying that he was not feeling good about the band that he was in!!!? Generation "X" And he enjoyed it very much!!? But when things started looking like a routine and wasn't in Rock music just to make money!!!!!!!? But wanting to make true rock music!! And he was definitely ahead of his time!!!!!!" And he did put his self out there in not knowing what exactly was going to happen at any given moment!!!!?? And it had a major impact on him !! And his music!!! God bless him and his family and friends!!! God bless you all today 🙏 Pace out
Very intelligent individual, not an easy thing, pedal to the metal no matter the consequences He knew what he wanted, and willing to pay the price to do it and long as he enjoyed it.... I say he is talented, intelligent and brave, others may say otherwise
Billy Idol is the Elvis Presley of punk rock. He embodies the rebellious and fearless spirit of late 70s punk mixed with the magnetic dancing performances of the mid 50s rock n’ roll era. The fact that he chose Steve Stevens as his guitarist also gave him a melodic heavy metal/hard rock edge. This unique combination of styles contributed to his success and authenticity.
Well, that's the image he was going for, so him and his fans would probably like that comment. Not sure if anyone else would agree though. Elvis was a pioneer, bringing black music to a white audience. I wouldn't say that Billy Idol did the same thing for punk. Punk was already going on in the US with the Ramones and others, and they weren't black. Definitely, it was a combination of different types of music and his look, along with jumping on the music video bandwagon that helped propel his music to the forefront of suburban white teenaged English-speakers of the early 80s. He was very much of his age, basically forgotten by the end of that decade, and no good music made since.
@@alukuhito you make a good point..I used to go and watch Generation X in the late 1970s and though they were a popular punk (ish) band Billy Idol was mocked by the punks for being too pretty and a bit of a poseur..and strangely some of Gen X audience would throw things at him probably because he looked a bit pleased with himself..I still liked a lot of the songs and they were a good band..but he is no Elvis!
@JESUS CHRIST so tell me why do almost all male rock fans have a soft spot for him and David Bowie? I'll never understand that... many straight guys into rock I know, finding these two guys attractive... weird...
A simple man.. who makes no to much future plans or claim to have ALL calculated in his life.. JUST having fun doing what HE believes is good in: Entertainment. ALWAYS liked Billy.. and still he is very nice man.. contrary to the HARD ASS rocker image he projets on the stage. Long life to Billy Idol... today.. also such caring grandpa! YEAH!!!! 🤘
The British press didn't how to handle Billy Idol because he's not your typical conventional rock star instead they laughed at him so he forged a career in the US. Billy had the last laugh.
He so right about England. The social classes are like bondage. And if you in the poorest class. It almost impossible to rise above. That is the reason punk was created.it was poor rebellious teenagers with nothing to loose. I was born in 1962 in Sheffield. So poor. Have 4 sibblings By way of a miracle my Dad managed to get us out. I often wonder, if me or my sibblings would have been part of the punk seen! RIP Dad. You did it!
@StraotsRUs oh go away. No one forced non English to move to England, if thats what you're off about. In fact, they could all leave, and problem solved.
I loved Billy Idol when I was in high school and that passed. I happened to see his Rebel Yell video w miley cyrus and expected to be disappointed. I was surprised and then saw his interview on David Letterman . Honest intelligent and dont give a fuck what you think. Its part of why I liked him for sure. I once read a letter to the editor of Rolling Stone complaining how a writer who interviewed him acted like a high school girl w a crush in her article. I now see why. Never read or saw an interview with him until a few days ago.. new respect
The hunt for the excitement of anything new thrills him. Keeping it fresh fun wildly exciting speaks to me too. I also admire venturing into the unknown and breaking out of your comfort zone, live for the moment.Action driven dynamic free spirit. What a total hottie ❤️🔥 💋🤤🤤🤤 a cutie. He’s the coolest around. Can’t help but smile cause his laugh is infectious.Face of an angel and a growling velvety smooth voice what a package 👄❤️🔥
Never a fan of his songs but this interview is fantastic..really impressive guy....here's this English accent guy saying he lived in Long Island for awhile? Anyway..he's truly cool
The part about places he wished he could play....In 2023 he was the very first to do a live rock concert at Hoover Dam on the heli-pad with and audience of maybe 200 lucky people. Check it out if you have not yet. Amazing show with special guests Steve Jones from Sex Pistols and Tony Kanal from No Doubt. Oh, and I have to brag that I get to see him in two days on May 10th!!!😎😁
@@jacquidawn1 Sorry but I made a mistake: I misread @Miss Tery as "He does NOT seem sleazy" hence my reply. NO idea where she sees that. He had a very druggy vibe when young already, just watch him do Rebel Yell, he's totally high like Bobby Farrell. It's my fave song of his. XD *But Sleazy?* No! It seems someone needs to read the definition of that word. Sleazy is a used car salesman or Harvey Weinstein. YUCK is right when you say "sleazy". As for "lucky" women... not so lucky when they get his "parting gift'. (Any guy who sleeps with "1000's of women" is sure to pass the STDs on! That's a Sag for yeah. Billy is the ONLY Sag I can stand.
@Ebony Tautari it was indeed great. The interviewer was grounded in reality, and without asking directly, asked: "Is there another side of you we haven't seen.?"
The best way to be born in the world of the hard time but I can't feel all that bad when I am alive together with him from his start of a one huge career that is as big as the most important music history legends the world has known and how cute and funny he has always been so it is not a big surprise to see how so much better he is being each year against the damage in the world and I guess the future is bright
He was adorable on Letterman. SEEMED hurt that the women in America wanted his body without getting to know him first. SO, changed his direction and accepted the "rides" offered. Why not, he didnt even have to ask them first. It was the time for gluttony during that chapter of his life.
Very,,,lovely..my vl billy idol tout jeune..big kiss for you..votre josi fan dévouée de france ❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😮❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎵🎶🎸🎸🎸🙏❤️👍✌️✌️🤲😉🫡⚘️🌹⚘️❤️❤️🔥❤️❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥👍💤💤🥰🫶🫶🫶🫶❤️🔥🤗😘😜
That was a couple clips I grabbed from a night flight episode. I don’t have the whole episode so there might be. They interviewed him showed a video of his then interviewed him more. My tape ended before the show ended.
ewjxn oh dam... ;-) thanku so much for response... Maybe I can google it. But I think I allready did.... Looks like u got some interesting stuff on yr channel... Is it all 80s stuff from the TV? Or are u a billy idol fan.? (I'm going threw a billy idol stage at the moment.. Completely obsessed..as stupid as that sounds, but I'm more starting to appreciate the fact that it seems as though he came in at a time when the music was dead and livened it up!... Kinda like what we need now! Some rock n roll saviour, sum new Michael Jackson/Elvis/Prince/Joan Jett/Billy idol! Or something! Lol anything/anyone to take over the world of music and get us all rock n and a rolling again! A new KING ¥SO TO SPEAK! OR: " *QUEEN!* "
@@ewjxn Sorry guys, i just couldn't go through with it. But hey, what if the new R&R sensation, or offshoot of it, comes in a way you least expect it ...? An older person - like one born in the 1960s who has imbibed the best of the best ...? Could such a person be out there ... who has the presence, energy, talent and the skills ... a superfit, supersinger, supercreative ... able to recreate the gold out of each era, but with a fresh wave!
He just might be the only kool dude left in rock music. Prince and George Michael gone…..I suppose Boy George. It’s nice to hear a honest perspective instead of all the celebrity BS the trapped talent has regurgitated over the years. The cat is a star!
@@izzy_6283 It's important to accurately know where you came from, what you are thankful for in that experience, and where you are aiming to go, because that gives a picture of what matters to you. That safeguards both yourself from misdirection, and others from creating an image of you that has no ground in reality.
@@firstbornjordanI thought he made it pretty clear where he came from, where he was headed & why, but I was saying it really doesn't seem important in the whole rock n roll scheme of things what his roots are..
Since he was around in the punk era and most had hair similar.....I think not Gen X was circa mid 70's at about the same time as Sex pistols Sid came along...chicken and egg situation please!!
I have not heard any such thing! Yesterday, I wanted to murder the lady in Ted Talk, she was doing exactly what you said. I pressed play again while I type and not watching him, there's absolutely ZERO saliva sounds. You sure you got the correct vid??? O_o
