Bought one new in March 1985 with every avail option. drove it until 2004 when some jerk decided to T-Bone me. I loved that car .Thanks for posting it really tugs at the heart
Just had that happen to my Buick of 16 years when a chick ran a red light in Seattle, I'm driving the Camaro right now but discovered she has couple problems for her age but still drives just fine.
I remember when those cars were new when I graduated high school in 1984. Great vehicle. Glad to see one that is still surviving. Please take care of it. It deserves a good home.
This is my all time favorite youtube video. It was an amazing trip down memory lane. Had one in high school and it met an unfortunate end. I will own one again some day. That radio is the stuff of legend. Thanks for posting.
Brings back fond memories. My mother had a medium grey '85 Berlinetta with every option but the V-8. Had to go to summer school the year she got it, and as our only car I "had to drive it" everyday. This of course meant getting up around 6 to drop her off at work, and be back everyday to pick her up. But, God did I have fun with that car. Started a love affair that continues to this day. My '19 Stingray is better in pretty much every way, but watching this video was like a ride in a time machine. Thanks.
I know you posted this vid years ago. I just found it today. I used to have this car! Man do I miss it! Thanks for the ride down memory lane. Things I miss. The awesome acceleration, the turn signal, and the radio! Thanks man.
Man, i love your video. I owned a 1986 Berlinetta for 4 years from 1990 to early 1995, still miss the car 22 years later. It wasn't overly fast, but then again it wasn't a Z28. Mine was white with lower black trim, separated by a set of gold stripes. It had every option except T-Tops and an automatic antenna, it also had the 305 V8. In terms of the fast idle, i fixed mine by disabling the vacuum advance off the throttle of the carburetor. It slowed the initial fast idle down to about 1500 rpms, and it also allowed for an earlier kick down if desired. I loved the ride and the interior. While not overly quick off the line, it had a great torque band between 2-4000 rpm, great acceleration when moving along, or merging onto a highway. My goal someday is to find one again. Thanks for the video, it helps me relive what I no longer own. Keep enjoying the car, they don't make them like that anymore.
Great Video. Brought me back down memory lane. in 1990 I had a 1985 Berlinetta with a 2.8 L V-6. Same interior and digital dash and cool stereo. It was way ahead of its time. :) Bill Kelton.. Adams, Massachusetts..
Hearing that 305 start brought back memories for me to the 1980 Camaro we had when I was a kid...my parents bought new in 1980 from Ferman Chevrolet here in Tampa,Fl....I remember having to go out and warm the car up each morning..depressing the pedal 3 times like you did and waiting for the right time to knock down the idle again then once again...do it too soon and she was either rough idle or stalled out...Very cold nature car..but wow was it fast!! factory 305 4 barrel carb..babied by my dad and mom who were older already...my father was already 60 in 1980 I think..anyway, my mom sold the car in 1991 with only 88,000 miles on it...I remember the car being a lot of trouble over the years although it was never abused...the 80's just were not reliable cars!! Problems I remember were the carb, and a recurring problem was the shift interlock or "tumbler" I remember being called where the key would not turn to start..something to do with the gear shift...not sure...long time ago and I was a teen then...Sure wish I had that car now!!
My father and I have the same, but with a different steering wheel, we swapped out the 305 with a 350. Shes a drag racer now, but still has most of the stock parts, especially on the interior. Great year for the car, we have around 147000 kms, the third generation is one of the best generations.
A friend of mine bought a new Berlinetta in the early 80's and he referred to that swivel radio controller as the "cash register". A few months later someone broke in and kicked it and he said the "register" was just laying off to the side when he found it with a bundle of wires keeping it from detaching altogether... lol
I have an 84 Camaro Z28 since 1993 and your 84 Camaro is super rare to have the digital dash and swivel radio. I've never seen a Berlinetta Camaro on the road or at any car show and only seen 1 or 2 in a junk yard with those options. Your digital dash and radio reminds me of the 80's Knight Rider Kitt car. You have a rare gem of a Camaro : ) I'm surprised everything is still working in the dash area including the radio. Keep it cause gonna be worth a lot someday.
I had an '84 myself. It was totaled when someone else couldn't understand what a 'stop' sign meant. I still have dreams where I'm trying to repair it. If you ever decide to sell it, would you consider contacting me? I've always wanted to get another, but never found one that I trust is in good condition.
Your car is in great all original condition! I have the same exact car in need of restoration. It was my first car. I still have and hope to restore one day. Thanks for posting!
Very nice I have the same one 84 with 305 v8 the only thing that's wrong with it is the head light and turn signal switches don't work and they don't make any parts for this car anymore
king of the clogged emissions. In the late 80's, I remember being in the back seat of a friends 84' berlinetta V8, that car struggled SO hard lol, I remember grinding my teeth in response to it's "kill me, please!" noise coming from the tailpipe. depressing :(
that is exactly the parts that i need to find, the replacement panel for lights and gauges, lights l have all gone out with time, any ideas where to get one ? have searched a lot
it's an absolutely horrible car, do yourself a favor, sell it ASAP, at least *TRY* to get your money back. no kidding, unless you're a mechanic, don't touch these cars!
Ummmm yeah I think that somewhere in the 7K is more accurate. Like Jay said, assuming the electronics work and its a pretty "solid" car. The problem that I see with the Berlinettas is that there just never going to really appreciate that much in value. I believe they will slowly appreciate...but nothing in comparison to the IROC-Z. I really think that these are neat cars...there not the sexiest or best looking cars...but to me do symbolize the 80s very well, and in an age where the value of a current generation is next to nothing of value I think that says a lot. Back in the 80s and even 90s when movies were made of the era people referenced the time period...almost as if they knew it was going to be the last of anything cool lol. Having a cool car and Van Halen concert shirt was a big deal, now people could care less. I myself would pay around 7 to 8 for this car...nothing really more unless it was just pristine condition. I think there a good touring car for sure! Made for the open highway and roads. Its a car that really has more sentimental value than anything I'm sure...its interesting...google 80s dodge chargers and stuff...those cars were very interesting indeed...most people don't even know that there were the muscle car names of cars in the 80s but with zero muscle, especially in the early 80s
Hi Maurice- I live in king county, Washington and I’m interested in buying an 84’ Berlinetta like this one. Do you still have it? If so are you interested in selling? I only ask since I live relatively close to Whidbey Island. Thanks.
Man don't you ever get rid of that thing! You should be super proud to own such a great example of this car. Your driving history on wheels man! I know that the Berlinettas will never fetch the money that the IROCs and the GTAs go for but there is something to be said about one is such great condition as yours...just curious what was the offer...I'm not interested in buying it but I would think that car would go for somewhere in the neighborhood of 16Kish...on a good day. I think these cars will keep going up in value...but much slower than the IROCs, however the fact that the car is basically unmolested to me is just so awesome! I understand the whole retromod deal and everything else, especially when a car is in such poor condition, but this thing does not need to be molested at ALL! As a matter of fact I'd try and slap the original wheels back on it...I think it would look much better in the sense or originality. U need to be taking that thing to car shows and educating the young folk on the history of these things haha. Just a beautiful car, I'm NOT a big fan of the digital dash...however I do enjoy it on this car only bc that really was pretty cutting edge back then like the radio and very unique. I hated the digital dash on the GTAs...to me it ruined them...AND it was an upgrade lol. Shesh...and those god awful huge air bags that came out after 88...okay rant over.
Identical including colorl car to mine only I have 51,000 miles. I bought new ,never in snow and only slightly in rain always garaged , never had paint or body work and needs none...Upgraded air tires etc...original owner...wipers and ac work good but button pod is touchy....
Hope you found out, but for anyone else who may be curious: The 85 MPH limit on speedometers was a side effect of the oil shortages of the mid-70's. Kind of a way to force folks to self govern the way they drive, since there'd be no factory way of knowing just how fast you're going if you putting the pedal to the floor. Cars could certainly do much faster than 85, unless you were in a stock DeLorean of course.
