I had exactly one of this VW Santana GX5i, 5 cyclinder, 5 speed manual gear box, central locking, all round power windows, metallic silver, good acceleration and the sound from the back box muffler. I still remember the number plate, Breg! A Brilliant Classic car indeed!
I saw one parked in Aberystwyth today 26-June 2023. I knew what it was immediately because we had one in 1983 ‘Y’ registered. Gold colour, five cylinder carburettor engine mounted longitudinally, with manual transmission. If parked facing down hill, water would overflow the boot channel and flood the boot.
Remember the VW Santana which I believe to be essentially a rebadged Audi 80. When following a VW Santana the name would remind me of the pop band and I would find myself humming those classic tracks in my head! Recommend that VW Owners Club consulted as can't be many left in this condition.
That was the first car I drove. The 5 cylinder 1.9 liter engine with 115 PS, in silver, same BBS rims. but the inside was all in blue. it had power steering and central locking.
I had an Audi 80 CD 5S same age as this and basically the same car. Sold it about 7 years ago to a young fella who lowered it put a massive sound system in it and painted it to look rusty. (Rat Rod) I think. Bloody heathen......
@@BungleBare Volkswagen B2 platform leading back to the Audi 80 1979. No matter what model bodywork peeled back. Only afew automotive platforms have lasted longer than this an most of them are also Volkswagen.
