This is my favorite Camaro!

Oh yeah, such a beautiful car with sleek design. Style wise spoken to me a huge improvement in comparison to the also nice 2nd Gen Camaro. I've got a fire engine red all original 1987 Camaro Z28 Iroc-Z 305 Convertible with a manual gearbox; such a blast to drive. Yes power wise spoken more powerful engines are available, but to me as a sunny Sunday afternoon cruiser the 305 will do just fine. Guess what... this 305 is economical as well to drive, just as it is a smooth drive.

My friend's dad was a Chevy salesman. He had one of the first ones and I did the same thing when I got over to his house and saw it. Awesome looking cars. I have always wanted one. I have been searching but money is tight now.

If I recall the 1986 had the 3rd brake light up high. Also the '86 was detuned somewhat from the 1985. I '87 they put the 3rd brake light in the spoiler and also made the 5.7 optional. Of the those 3 years from my perspective the 1987 with the 5.7 is the most coveted.

There are few cars that have that timeless look and the iroc-z is that car

Still a desired car for me to acquire. Prices for them sometimes way high now for a good condition one...but values are holding...so maybe it could be considered an investment?

1985 was the best performance TPI 305 offered due to having the similar cam put into the 5.7 TPI engine.

Back in those days that was pretty good due to emissions sapping power starting back in 1974.

*You must have not lived in those days after the lame late-1970s/early-1980s or you were in diapers with a sippy cup. This car, the Corvette, and the 5.0 (302) Mustang signaled the return of good V8 power that continues to improve to today's zenith of it. Silly spoild children with no knowledge or context of history!*

@@jameswood678 you can recall the olden malaise era of cars just fine, and also still understand that 7 seconds is as slow as a modern car gets, in addition to the often under-4 second times available on a majority of sports cars
@jameswood678
@jameswood678 2 года назад
@@roddydykes7053 *Who said that you couldn't? I CERTAINLY DID NOT. I said that people who make fun of the performance of earlier cars are entitled spoiled children. Why don't we make fun of the revolutionary Ford model T with its 25hp, then? Be sure it would be stupid, that's why. The fact is the IROC Z28 (along with the others I mentioned) made cars sporty again that cut the wind, handled. corners with aplomb, and finally made acceleration fun again. Anybody who can't understand that is a moron. Any body who compares 30 year old cars to modern cars is equally a moron. Finally, anyone who thinks that "the majority" of modern sporty cars achieve sub 4 second 0 to 60 mph times is a blithering idiot. Even today, it takes an EXPENSIVE car to less than 4. Gees, grow up.*

0 to 60 in about 7 seconds isn't as flash as the quarter mile it smashed out in 14.7 seconds this is phenomenal for a 215 hp v8 , I know someone that had a 235kw holden commodore ss what's that 315 hp ish and best they got was 14.5 on the day when I saw 0 to 60 in 7.1 I was thinking 7.5 7.6 to 100 and Maybee 15.2 quarter Mile to 15.4 ish 14.7 is amazing

Hate to tell you..90-92 l98’s t-tops we’re no longer available with that motor …you were forced to get the 305….if 90’s your year..grab a305 with tops but make sure it’s a 5 speed manual ..it has the l98 cam and it’s only 10 hp less than the 350 (in manual form only)…if you gotta have the 350 and tops your only years are 87,88 &89😊..

You are correct in that the '86 had less HP....in 1987 though it came back up and they introduced the 5.7 to make more. I feel that the 1987 5.7 is the one to get. I have been looking for a decently priced either 1985 or 1987. Prices in the past 5 years have gone through the roof on these.

Fast back in the day. But 4 cylinder cars have more power today. I had a Hummer EV for a year, and it has ruined my experience in other cars. That thing was so fast and just instant torque.

They are referring to the Torque curve-- all power on the bottom- midrange (feels like a turbo)...
@SolamenteVees
@SolamenteVees 2 года назад
@@67Zink I understand the comparison, but these engines were torquey because they ran out of steam by 4,500 rpm. 190 hp for the automatic cars and 215 hp for the 5-speeds.
@67Zink
@67Zink 2 года назад
@@SolamenteVees The big secret is to port out the intake manifold, and run a 2500 Stall with the Automatic. The stock 1600 RPM was pathetic when matched with the 700R4 too low gearing -- 3:06 It would have picked up a few more MPH on the 1/4 with a more friendly 200R4 with it's lower ratio. 700R4 was a truck transmission and slowed down all perf applications.
@ImmortanDan
@ImmortanDan 2 года назад
The big deal about Tuned Port Injection was that the intake runners’ length was “tuned” for optimal airflow at the engine’s typical operating speeds, rather than just made out of the least material possible like the TBI and 4bbl manifolds. The comparison to turbos comes from the fact that the manifold increased power by letting air flow into the engine better - much like a turbo forces more air into the engine. Mind you, this is from the era when most US turbo engines were hot-air and ran under 8 pounds of boost, so the introduction of a better intake manifold (which provided at least an extra 12% of power in every car it was installed to) could indeed feel like someone just slapped a turbo on the thing.
