What if I told you at the end of the 1985 season that over the next 35 seasons the Raiders will only have 8 winning seasons, that they will only make 1 Super Bowl run (and that it will be a blowout loss), and that they will win just 6 playoff games? You would have thought I was crazy. Yet here we are.
As a fan the last 36 years who basically remembers starting to root for them as a six year old in 1985, I would've asked you to convince me to find another hobby/life interest. I just brought this up on Silver and Black Pride, one of the biggest Raider boards online and we've been to the playoffs just SEVEN times...one fewer than the Carolina Panthers, who didn't start playing until 1995 and just one more than the Houston Texans, who didn't start playing until 2002. I feel like an addict that got hooked on a bad product lmao.
As A Broncos fan, the 80s had so many Raiders/Broncos games that always seemed to be decided by a field goal or went into OT...in 85,,Broncos were the 1st team in nfl history to win 11 games and fail to make the play-offs. Both Raider games went to OT, 31-28 in the coliseum and 2 weeks later a 17-14 loss in OT at Denver , helped the Raiders edge the Broncos out by one game as the Raiders went 12-4,to the Broncos 11-5.. Marcus was league MVP that year.
