The gl-10 is the shit. My dad had one when he was my age. Still goes on about how awsome the dashboard was. Getting a BRZ this week. Its what makes Subaru a Subaru 🤷🏻♂️
I saw in the book for mine that there were an option that had like air ride that you could lift and lower the ride height. I was embarrassed pulling into high school driving a 💩 brown 1985 GL wagon… but people at school loved it. 😂 We used to take it off roading almost every day after school. Thing would still be on the road if the salt hadn’t rusted the frame in half.
I had this same model, black with red pinstripes and black and red interior. Best fabric seats I’ve ever had in any car. Loved that digital display! Thanks for sharing! Had to get rid of mine when head gasket blew.
I have the EA-82T engine from the 1985 GL-10 Wagon in a home-built airplane called a Pietenpol Air Camper. The engine performs well in this plane. Thanks for your walk-around tour. I wondered what the ‘85 Wagon was like. That’s a super cool car, and really ahead of it’s time. Too bad they had corrosion issues. We might still see more of them.
It's near impossible to find without rust. It would be fun to see these getting frame off restorations someday. I think a lot of these 30-40 year old cars have enough interest for it to eventually happen.👍
Sweet looking Subaru. Although I was too young to drive at the time, I remember when Subaru cars looked like this. Although I could do without the digital display, the rest of the car looks awesome! I don't mind patina, as long as it's merely surface rust, and doesn't penetrate the metal. I hope it sells.
I've had two gl-10 4WD turbo sedan models back in the day! You have a Unicorn my friend😀 One was an automatic and 5 speed manual transmission. The automatics tend to be weaker for the 1985 model year. I had to have mine rebuilt in 1990. The 4WD also had to be replaced. The maintenance done to the wagon should stave off future repairs. Sweet ride!
In Australia, I had the '86 up-spec version of this car which was called the 'Touring Wagon'. As with the previous GL series, it had an elevated roofline from just behind the front seats to the rear tailgate. For some reason,I haven't been able to find an example of this vehicle on yt yet but I'm still searching.
Actually, I found a 1983 GL version of the Touring Wagon on a Japanese YT channel. It was a model which I also owned but only briefly, as it tried to pick a fight with a motorhome in Tasmania and lost quite comprehensively!
Later Subaru DL/GL/GL-10/Loyales had permanent AWD (i.e. no buttons to push)...every Subaru has permanent symmetrical AWD since at least the 1990s (except for the BRZ)!
Oh my! True beauty she is! (automatic is a She) I would love to have her for sure.. Here I am dealing with a 88 Gl and 92 loyale.. Non turbos in worse condition..
Great car. When done with it, please send it over to me so that I can preach the gospel of Jesus Christ with it. Great companion in advancing the kingdom of God. Beautiful car indeed....
I sold it years ago. It was on Barn Finds with no response for months. A guy came and bought and left it sitting for a long time. Never registered it. The car probably ended up getting towed away.
