Now well into the first season for group A touring cars in Australia you couldn't help thinking that there was a lot of tension on the podium at the end of this race.. the weather conditions for this round kept everyone guessing.. Francevic, still on unsuitable tires, was careful with his rubber and only at the end of the race he got into attack mode. enjoy.. touringcarracing.net/Races/198...

Thank you for uploading this. I started watching the ATCC with the endurance round at Amaroo Park, 1985. I was 14. The telecast was delayed until after 10pm because they put on the tennis instead. So I waited many hours by the tv. I still don't like tennis to this day...😁 Very different times. Better in some ways. But we never dreamed we would one day be able to watch a motor race on a telephone we carried around in our pocket.

1985 was the first year of Group A in Australia after more than a decade with Group C from 1973-1984.

Didn't realise the volvo was a group b spec. Was the dislike of Robbie just sour grapes or was his driving not up to scratch? Seems like he was a polarising personality. Thanks for the upload again.

Group A touring cars were relatively new to Australia at the time and a few drivers and teams (including the HDT) got caught out and they went from winning races to being beaten more regularly. It didn't sit too well with some. Francevic really did nothing wrong, but a "bloody Volvo" wasn't supposed to be beating the Holden and Ford V8's. But beat them they did.

During the enduro round here, did the Green Mustang end up in the ditch at turn 2? Have you got a copy of that race?? Keep the old Group A stuff coming! Love it!
