I put some washers on the valve cover bolts to keep them from pulling through the plastic holes.

There wasn't much oil coming out at the rockers when running it without the valve cover! I ran my 4.0 like that once and it was splashing oil everywhere

Thought the same thing. Though the first two were still pumping up, the rest of them didn't seem to push much oil.. 2.5l things i guess?

they all did have oil sitting in them, but not enough to splash around I wouldn't be surprised if the oil pump is worn out or something. The engine hasn't ever run quite right and it's also never had an oil pressure gauge, just the dummy light

Can you share the information on the fittings to adapt to the ccv system for the metal valve cover? I've got my new cover on, but introduced a vacuum leak with it.

I just found brass adapters that matched the diameters of the hoses. The rear one should be 1/2" to 5/16" and the front one should be 1/4" to 5/16". I got these fittings on Amazon and they included adequately sized hose clamps

I honestly wouldn't do it with the head on, it's very difficult to line them up. I actually had to use a rubber mallet to pound this one back in, which is obviously a terrible idea

@@WAEMIDIV found the original FSM for these 2.5 engines. The instructions in the lifter replacement procedure say to lift them out of the pushrod holes. There is a tool to take them out and get them back in straight. I'm definitely gonna try it out
