@rickram1961 absolutely agree. I had this year's award show on VHS and would play this section, especially, the awesome Dorothy Loudon's EASY STREET "she's still doing it!... oh GOD!' Wonderful moment. Thank you dinnertyme.
God, wasn't Loudon just awesome? I just want to shake like I don't give a crap about the world when I hear her singing. And I really think Bea Arthur could really drive those prowling demons away judging by the way she sings 'I don't care'.
@intothewoods4 Rex Smith - I Hope I Get It; Dorothy Loudon - Easy Street; Nell Carter - Ain't Misbehavin'; Bea Arthur - Not While I'm Around; Karen Morrow - Don't Cry For Me Argentina; Lee Roy Reams - We're In the Money; Ann Reinking, Juliet Prowse & Sandy Duncan - Folies Bergere; Nell Carter - Memory; All - The Best of Times; All joined by John Rubinstein, Alfonso Ribeiro, Ben Vereen & Leslie Uggams - Muddy Water and Finale. All of the featured musicals won Best Musical from 1976-1985. :)
This video makes me wonder what it would have been like if Bea Arthur had played Mrs. Lovett at some point (I'm presuming that she never had). I can't decide if it would have been a dazzling success or a miserable failure. I love Bea, and would hope that it would be the former, but it's not quite the role she's known for playing.
One of the worst seasons ever. They should have not even had a Tony show. They had to recycle because the only outstanding event of that season was Chita Rivera In Jerry's Girls.
