Whoa Nelley, I'm surprised you didn't find Noah's Ark in there with all that mud. We got mud and it's a flood. The Jeep is now a heap, even if you could buy it cheap. Here we go: VIN is 1 for US made, J for Jeep Corporation, C for Multipurpose Vehicle , N for 360 V8 with two barrel (Motorcraft) carburetor, AMC designed engine, J for three speed automatic, column shift with Select-Trac 4WD, 15 for Jeep Grand Wagoneer 109" wheelbase four door wagon, U for 6001 to 7000# GVWR rating, 6 is a check digit, H for the 1987 model year, T for Toledo, OH assembly, and the rest is the production sequence. Yes, this vehicle was produced through the 1991 model year. The last one rolled off the Toledo assembly plant on June 21, 1991. There was a one year gap with a full size offering in the Jeep line. The Grand Cherokee would fill that void in 1993 and by then it had fuel injection. These Grand Wagoneers typically had a Chrysler Torque Flite transmission, but owing to the AMC way of doing business as "Almost a Car" or "All Makes Combined" they sourced parts from everywhere. Transmissions from GM and Chrysler, distributors and carburetors from Ford, steering columns and related parts from GM, and the list goes on. It would be part of their downfall since they depended upon competitors for a lot of parts. In March 1987, Chrysler bought out AMC, mostly to get Jeep, everything else was pretty much table scraps. You made the hula girl "twerk" for a minute there. I'm not sure that truck came from Florida, I think Martin Autotint may have been a franchise and they had to put a sticker that their process complies with Florida law. That yellow label is to warn the installer that there were two different oil filter threads used on various AMC products back then. I believe one was metric, the other SAE. You could not mix them. A lot of dealer technicians and mechanics were for a time causing leaks and engine failures so that label was added. I can remember footnotes about the thread size in many of the filter catalogs at the time. Possible code "5J" Dark Blue exterior paint on this one. These were real dinosaurs by the mid 80s, a real hold out. However, they are still popular today and some still sell for more than their original sticker price. They have quite a following. The two barrel Motorcraft did it no favors though because it wasn't thrifty, nor was it powerful. The 360 V8 in this truck is a gas hog and it's pulling around a lot of dead weight. However, you didn't buy one of these because you wanted good fuel mileage. You bought it to haul people, cargo and tow.
@@Rav_4_Guy When you have to know all the parts systems out there because you worked for a parts company that sold parts for everything, you get to know what you have to know....
I remember these. I'm not or ever been a Jeep fan of any kind but these were better looking than the modern version that Chrysler/FIAT builds these days. This one was when AMC (American Motors Corp) built these before Chrysler Corporation & AMC merged or bought out by Chrysler. Now to watch the video. Thank you for sharing!
I have worked on so many and never had that problem. Built one from ground up 40 years ago. The tricky plug was pas side rear plug. Best to get that one from underneath. Now working under the dash, that was razor sharp crap.
I don't know man they're not that uncommon, here's one in much better shape for a grand.facebook.com/marketplace/item/281504726282412 Here's another for 4500 with good interior facebook.com/marketplace/item/582844195688569
We had a 89 grand wagoneer growing up and it was a beautiful vehicle but was always trouble to keep running. It had the AMC 360 and was a very stought truck but always let us down, believe we had a lemon. Although it was a lot of trouble, it was still one of my favorite vehicles we had growing up.
These had a real frame, I'd trust them more than most current SUVs when towing things.... Especially anything made by FCA, other than maybe a Cummins or hemi Ram.
I saw a picture of one of these from the 1970s or 1980s on the side of a massive rock face in the middle of i think it was yellowstone national Park. Such a cool photo.
That Jeep has the older 1979-85 Grille on it but it has the '87-'91 style woodgrain and woodgrain trim.....The grille was revised in 1986 to the version used through 1991. The hood ornament was introduced in 1986 or 87. It looks like someone put an older style grille on this one.
Salvage auction donation vehicle. Maybe was a hunting lease vehicle or left in a field. Definitely was in a rural area or used in the dirt it's whole life.
When they were the only kid on the block with a sporty four wheel drive and boy howdy they drank gas like it was free. Well cared for were actually nice in some ways here in alaska. Snow was no problem and fast enough to get in trouble. Comfortable and expensive. Dodge transmissions tho and dead for the most part
What a crying shame . When guys are looking for a solid FSJ project and end up with one that needs major body repair due to rot just to get to the restoration point , here is one in a wrecking yard / auto recycler to be parted out and crushed . If only someone had the insight before it ended up on stands there , someone would be building a solid truck . Back in the 90's , I wish the 1978 Cherokee I had was this rot free . . Can only imagine the feelings anyone who currently owns , building or restoring one must be feeling just looking at this truck . Someone just didn't care enough to put the truck on the market thinking of someone who is lusting for this truck .
My girlfriends son and his dad sell parts for these in Montana, you wont believe what he gets for parts for these things! 175 bucks for a rear window motor its pretty insane especilly the 89 90 91 models, these things fetch 50 grand and more fully restored
Something is off here. That's a '79-'85 grille, with '84-'86 badging, and '87-'91 wood paneling. The door jamb sticker data is scrubbed clean and this thing looks like it's been in a flood. Something's fishy...
@@ClassicRideSociety '87s did have the hood ornament. So did '86s. But '85 models didn't, and neither did the ones before. I'm thinking this was either totaled and repaired, stolen, and/or it's a case of VIN fraud.
I've bee around Range Rovers from the very beginning and no matter how they upgrade them they are for those who reckon carrying the name is enough to justify the aggravation and massive expense many RRs have. I've have this Jeep anyday.
Aaaaaaaw.... Maaan! That sucks! Seems like it has been under water for atleast a months, acording to all the mud. Quite a shame. Rest wasn't to bad on it, seen similar in better condition for around 15 grand if they run and drive. But yea, water is the worst. Water & Fire. Still would save it and rebuild it, just the electronics and parts of the interior would be something to be a little hard to find, might not even be to hard.
My thought is that the Plymouth Voyager/Dodge Caravan were supposed to be the take over for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer... the first gen minivans came in 4 wheel drive. They remind me so much of this body style of Grand Wagoneer because of the fake wood trim. Lol I know the Jeep Cherokee later on was basically a wagoneer, but without the Wagoneer name and maybe 2 ft smaller in length, kinda like the Chevy Suburban V. the Tahoe. The Wagoneers were like Jeep's suburban length wise. Oh, in 1985 Chrysler bought Jeep from AMC because AMC was going bankrupt at the time and AMC became extinct, but Chrysler decided to continue this body design for a number of years until 1991. So yes, it can be an AMC still to some bcuz AMC had always used Chrysler engines for the Wagoneer anyway lol
It is in its right place. I had the Cherokee version, what a lemon. I got so pissed at it that I drove it to the junk yard and grabs my cash and caught a ride home, true story.
That is indeed an AMC 360, and '87 was the year Chrysler bought AMC. I don't know if I've ever seen so many wasps nests in one vehicle---imagine taking a trip in that while all of the nests were still active
Another one bites the dust. If there is no lock out hubs then it's full time 4x4. Gm, Ford and Dodge and AMC they all thought it was a good idea until it started falling. My uncle has a ramcharger and he's had trouble with it.
@@googleusergp oh I see . Well that makes sense because I did hear someone say that they all had issues. If that's was different then, there was no issues.
@@chevylandt.v There were (and still are to a degree) folks that specialize in 4WD repair. A lot of transmission shops back in the day would say "4WD specialists", and if they weren't doing transmission repair, they were doing 4WD repairs.
😆 ok I guess I should be more specific for those that dont know what I mean. I don't count surface rust. I was referring to no serious rust issues that require replacing bad metal.
Don't know what some of these people are talking about , we have 2 of these in the family an 85 and 87 with 360's and we'll over 250 k on each one , and talk about stupid easy to work on , guess it's all in the maintenance you do .
hey get me that ashtray, lol some a##hole broke into my j20 and stole mine and the change that was in it,stole my chainsaw to,i had a 81 wagon i bought for the tires, scrapped the body ,kept the frame and drivetrain and stuck a amc eagle wagon on it,during the build,i almost died 3 times from the ramp folding in half and slamming down on the jackstand, shooting it out towards my head, putting a huge dent in my metal cabinet to it sliding forward on the camper jacks and pinning me against the garage wall;before i scrapped i found all kinds of random things in side panels, under the carpet, and a few bucks in change, sold the engine and trans made my money back and had a spare set of tires for my j20,which is an 81 with a 401,ill never get rid of it,i wanta be burried in it,lol
People are idiots. Dallas South Central Paid $200 max for that. That was all they would give me for my running/driving Lincoln Navigator. A $5 Craigslist ad and This GW would have been gone in a day for $1000 Minimum.
I apologize for not being animated enough for you. Guess i needed an energy drink like I had in my last jeep video. Check it out. Its of a 69 Wagoneer. If I still bore ya, well then not much else i can do. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vfQvJv3W4eo.html
It's a AMC. It's were it belongs. I had a 78. The motor took a 💩 at 30,000 miles. Dropped a 350 Chevy in it. Then it was good. And your right looks like a swap rat.
