Mercedes OM600 series engines just refuse tot die. If you change the oil regularly, and say kind words to it, your grandchildren will end up driving it. Proud owner of a 1995 Sprinter 308D, OM601, 2299cc, 79hp (in 1995!). PS. Don't ever sell it!
Mist of these chassis are indestructible , if you keep them from rust and maintain them. These were the newest Mercedes models, when I was a child, and loving cars since I was a kid, they have a special place in my hearth.
I've still got a 1989 W124 300ce . Hopefully it lasts for many more years to come its a great car. Not as fast or as many gadgets as a modern car (not even a cupholder) but I when I see newer Mercedes on the road I feel like my car has more character and more style. It comes from an era when the 3 pointed star on the bonnet differentiated it from other vehicles on the road in a way which I don't think it does anymore. Respect to you fellow Bruno Sacco fans!
I too am a happy owner of a 300CE from 1990 .. fantastic car, it gave me and still gives me so many satisfactions. It is incredible to think that it is a car that is almost 30 years old, and is as comfortable as a few cars even of the most modern ones. They are really cars of another age, in which they were built in another way and with another mentality.
@NinJaZockt Plus these cars weren't built to be thrown out every 2-3 years; if properly maintained they're solid as a rock. Some of the diesels still do amazingly well even when they're not...
Yep perhaps it's been an unhealthy fascination restomodding my '87 300D Turbo, but seeing as it's been the quickest, most comfortable and reliable car I've had for 7 years now (getting 30+ mpg when not smoking Priuses), I'd say the effort has been well deserved. Just turned 263k mi today, planning to see a lot more.
These were all new when I was a child, and as i love cars since I was a little kid, and Bulgaria was, had just gotten out of the soviet silver wall, imagine how these cars looked compared to the Russian Lada, Moskvich, and the other eastern European cars. I love these cars.
Or a Yugo. At least the Lada is a 4 door sedan. My dad back in 2005 had a 1994 Yugo. I rememember asking him back then if we could buy a W126 Mercedes, it was a great looking, 280SE model. But the car was to expensive for my country's standard.
1985-built W124 300E here.. Sorry but I cherish it even more than the 5 speed '87 535i I used to own. 🙈 Although I do miss that thing dearly, the Benz is just a spaceship in comparison when it comes to execution and refinement. The 535i is more of a raw machine with nice interior, while the 300E literally transcends what you'd expect from something that on paper merely posseses an inline 6 cylinder gas engine and a 4 speed automatic transmission. Exhilarating to drive at higher speeds due to its gearing, handling, and extremely smooth power delivery.. all in such an amazingly aerodynamic body--0.31 drag coefficient--really contributes to the absence of sound in the cabin.. It's just unlike anything else. Both amazing cars though!!
I used to daily a 230CE, I have dead relatives I miss less than that car. Nowadays daily a C-class coupe, but it's not the same. That car just had that something that words cannot describe.
And ranking, and ranking, and ranking... My 1991 W201 Just Turner 453000 km and still ranking, and ranking, and ranking!! Amazona caros!! DAS BESTE ODER NICHT !
190 W201 = C-class sedan W124 sedan = E-class sedan S124 T-model = E-class estate W126 SEL = S-class sedan C126 SEC = S-class coupe R107 SL = SL roadster The entire Mercedes line-up 33 years ago, that's it.
*I currently have a W246 Mercedes B200TDi AMG Line Sport, best Merc I ever had - up to 74.2 MPG and 143 MPH on German Autobahn. (Sat-Nav Reading) Had many Models in the past including W126 (1986) 280SE & (1988) 420SE, 190E, 200E, 450 V8 SLC (only car I have actually done more than 100 miles in an hour - 106 and top speed of 156 mph) and many more. You probably don't get many of these versions in the USA. PS I acquired an S Class being a fan of Dallas (Larry Hagman drove one) & Bobby Ewing the 280 SL (2 Seater Sports) in the late 80's and claimed at the time to be the safest car in the World. Having a young family I sold my Rolls Royce Silver Shadow and ordered one, well worth the wait, upgraded to 420SE All Aluminium Engine V8 when introduced. Lovely car but a bit on the thirsty side at 25mpg.*
*Nope not so Bilal, I have a W246 Mercedes B200 TDi AMG Line Sport, best Merc I ever had - up to 74.2 MPG and 143 MPH on Autobahn. Had many in the past including W126 280SE & 420SE, 190E, 200E, 450 V8 CLS and many more. You probably don't get many of these in the USA.*
I STILL HAVE MY 190E 2.6 liters, like new from the factory i keep care of it a lot even i have Mercedes-Benz c200 1976!! also new as it looks like from the factoty
A five-sixty was a 5, 6 Liter engine ... and they al had a oil pressure indicator ... not as nowadays. I drive a ´92 300 CE with 200.000 km, it drives almost as well as a demonstration car ... Those were still real cars made in Western Germany :-)
🇩🇪Mercedes can't make small engine....They tested several small engine from other brand cars....😊😯😯😯And they were astonished that RENAULT can make VERY GOOD small engines..... 🇫🇷They are Renault engine on MERCEDES A-CLASS, B-CLASS, AND some C-CLASS.....
@@ilgattooo Mercedes was astonished that RENAULT can make good engines....They want quality in theirs cars....This german firm Will never buy cheaper engine for theirs cars...It is a rich company....MERCEDES can't making small engine...S0 RENAULT engine are very good....
*Strange nearly all models in Europe are **_Diesels_** as fuel much cheaper and many more MPG. Although cost more the modern diesels are more than a match for any high revving Petrol Versions. Amazing torque on tap and with 7 speed gearbox rarely exceed 2000 RPM. I tried a Petrol Version of the B200 before placing order and when put foot down nothing happened, the agent said 'Change Down' - still nothing, Change down again and revving at 4000 rpm showed some acceleration, compare that to a Diesel with instant 'Grunt' - Use one of mine (W245 B200 CDi) for towing a 1¼ Ton Caravan and it's great.*
It's a shame the U.S didn't get the 0305 transit bus. They're very nice also. The closest it got was the MAN SL40-102 Americana, with a lot of common driveline components including engine block.
I know. They also didn't mention that you could get the w126 in short or long wheelbase for each engine. They didn't even mention a short wheelbase for the w126. I've got a 380se and yeah it's a little too small inside. There's not enough rear legroom for me to sit behind myself. But man is it comfortable to drive.
its great seeing when Mercedes made cars. Now if you had this video you'd have a bullshit little car on one end and giant SUV on the other. Do you have a video from the 90's that includes the W140?
It's a surprise to me the lineup was so limited. Far less engines than MB sold in Europe. The four cylinder diesels , the 500 SEL and the smaller SLs are missing. And a few others. My second car is a 1990 W 126 300 SE. My mother drives a 190 E 2.6 and my brother owns a C107 380 SLC for sunny days.
*The "Golden Days" are in the future, I have been invited to Rastatt (2006) and Dortmund in 2016 (Germany) as a valued Mercedes customer (all First Class Travel and Accommodation paid by Mercedes and a considerable cash payment) and sworn to secrecy, but I can reveal that the best is yet to come, just you wait a short while and early 2020 New Hybrid and Electric Models will be announced that will blow you away.*
In recent years as they have been downsizing their engines to meet emission standards, M-B stuck have with the old badging numbers. The result is downsized models with the 63 badging that originally referred to the magnificent 6.3L V8 that powered their legendary 600-series sedans and limos. Am I the only one who finds this distasteful?
190d 2.5 turbo Not Available In California Haha we never get any of the cool stuff.... Except they must have changed that, because there a lots of those here
